She spent days, maybe weeks, fighting over the question in her head. It festered in her chest, burning the delicate flesh like petals in a storm. Why, she constantly questions herself, Why not me?
Because every time she looks at his chest, the star shaped scar is bright and red, painted on to his skin for eternity. It makes her chest crumble and her eyes shut with questions. Paling, she turned away from the Fire Lord’s chest, knowing that this wasn’t for her. It belongs to someone else. She was running out of right answers for all the questions swallowing her up.
There is a scar on his chest.
It wasn’t for her.
When she found out that it was from Azula’s lightning, how he ran for it, took it with no hesitation, and was willing to die for the waterbender, she closed her eyes and was disappointed.
It’s the same exact feeling that was there when she read the letter, when he shut the door in her face(she got out herself), when he didn’t show up to save her from Azula and her lightning (Ty Lee did that, Ty lee, who she ignored and forgot), and when he didn’t show up and fling her cell door open, arms embracing her and telling her of an ended war (that was her old uncle and a family she doesn’t think about).
But now she thinks, Would you do this for me?
