I like this, its definately something I think any girl would wonder about in her position. And she doesn't come across as whiney ('what about MEEEE?'). Very nice! Mai why do I like you so much better in the fan universe then in the canon universe? maybe because you have depth here
I love this. Perfectly IC (doubts without presented as overbearing jealousy- just simple, rational truths). Especially this paragraph;
It’s the same exact feeling that was there when she read the letter, when he shut the door in her face(she got out herself), when he didn’t show up to save her from Azula and her lightning (Ty Lee did that, Ty lee, who she ignored and forgot), and when he didn’t show up and fling her cell door open, arms embracing her and telling her of an ended war (that was her old uncle and a family she doesn’t think about).
Zutarian or not, I was a bit dissapointed when I learned that Zuko did absolutely nothing that relates to Mai after TBR. Come on. You don't forget your first official girlfriend like that, Zuko. Even if you two are 'over'.
And your fic gives me ideas about writing a 'Mai-and-family'-centric fic. Gah.
