Despite obnoxious surroundings, it sounds like a lovely time! I checked them out at their website: www.thewhitlams.com
They have some fantastic audio clips! Such bright & folksy music. They reminds me of the Psychedelic Furs, The Church and XTC.

'Twas! *grin* And I'm glad you liked the site and its clips, though they hardly do the music justice.

And it's funny you should mention XTC since they have also been on our CD player a lot recently.

Mmmmmm- bright and melancholy folksy music.... *beams*

*grin* G'day Merkaba!

Hmmmm- how to define "bogan". I certainly can't top the definitions given at http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bogan so I'll refer you there for a full scope of (hilarious) definitions.

However, in short, "bogan" is a curious bit of Aussie slang used to denote a particular type of Australian. They are unique in many ways to the culture down under, but also share many similarities with those North Americans stereotypically associated with mobile home parks and often referred to with terms involving the word "trash". *wink*

Oh man, I love the Whitlams! I am yet to see them live. The second-last time they played in Hobart, they showed up in Lizbon bar afterwards, and my friend Kale gave them a ride home to Wrest Point!!!!!

I adore Charlie No. 1. The piano theme kind of jabs at me repeatedly. It's gorgeous.

Yeah, they are one of the many wonderful things that my beloved introduced me to early in our relationship. I whole-heartedly encourage you to see them live if you get another chance. They are one of the few bands (in my opinion) that are actually better live than recorded! *swoon*

That's a great story about your friend. Lucky Kale!
