I watched it last week and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The fact that I watched it on the first week of release where avid fans usually turn out was a really good decision because the cinema ambiance added to my enjoyment of the film. Anyways, I really agree with what you said regarding the movie being too focused with the creatures that it didn't get to go super in depth with the other characters - I really hope they tackle more on that on the next movies. THEY HAVE TO, I mean we have 4 more movies left right?

I did love Eddie as Newt and I fell in love with Queenie. So yeah <3

I'm actually not sure about that now. I read a quote from David Yates that indicates that while they WILL all be in the next film, the focus is going to shift to Grindlewald et all. So... yeah. :/ Not sure if that change was made when they decided to make it five movies or what. I hope they're at least expanded on in the next film, and we figure out what happened to Jacob and Queenie. (ETA: Or not, apparently JKR has said Newt WILL remain the lead. Whew. I did wonder about that...)

Couldn't agree more -- when I left the cinema last Monday, my first reaction was, "I want a Niffler!", and the second, "This needs a novelization!"

There was so much backstory barely hinted at that got lost under the action and what world-building there was ... publishing the script, or just adding a few deleted scenes to the DVD, won't be enough nor do it justice.

(Unfortunately, I can't see JKR permitting anyone else to do a novelization, so if there should be one eventually, it won't be before the final film. Le sigh.)

Yeah, I can't see JKR allowing it either, which is a shame. I have so many questions. Although I could always just tweet her. :P (She probably has answered a few questions in tweets, actually.)

There's an actually screenplay for this film that is out (As seen here: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/fantastic-beasts-and-where-to-find-them-j-k-rowling/1123722904?ean=9781338109061&st=PLA&sid=BNB_DRS_Core+Shopping+Books_00000000&2sid=Google_&sourceId=PLGoP67428)

Anyway, I loved the film! I enjoyed the beasts especially the Niffler and actually loved the characters.

I was wondering when Newt suspected (You know which character I am talking about) as evil.

Can't wait to see the 4 movies unfold and how Grindlewad falls from power and ultimately gets jailed.

I also enjoyed it well enough, but there was just a lot of information to take in and I don't think it was as organized as it probably should have been. As you mentioned to me earlier it just felt like this movie was a setup for something more down the line, which we only have until the rest of the films to see if it follows through. But overall as it stands, while it had enjoyable moments and made me curious about certain things, it also had flaws with how the story was presented. I don't know whether it was due to the script or the editing, but I felt there was a lot missing that needed to be there. Perhaps this is just me thinking far too much into things, but after two viewings I do have my own nitpicks and criticisms ( ... )

(A lot has to do with the twist at the end which I felt failed, because aside from the predictability there was little setup with that to the point where it just fell incredibly flat, and not just with the Depp casting.)

I DO wonder what they were thinking with the Depp casting, although it may have been before the abuse story came out.

I want more depth, more substance, more background on characters and situations and this world/era that we're seeing more of.

Me too - especially as this is the very thing JKR is known for.

It was filmed last year, so yeah it was definitely before everything involving the now known domestic abuse. :/

I heard that they wanted someone "iconic" for the role of Grindelwald, but what on earth made them think Depp was that person? Considering he has been hamming it up with phoning in his performances for the last several years now? It just feels like they picked a known name in Hollywood so the rest of the films will make bank. I know this is me being bitter and petty, but they honestly could've literally gotten anyone else but him for this role.
