I also enjoyed it well enough, but there was just a lot of information to take in and I don't think it was as organized as it probably should have been. As you mentioned to me earlier it just felt like this movie was a setup for something more down the line, which we only have until the rest of the films to see if it follows through. But overall as it stands, while it had enjoyable moments and made me curious about certain things, it also had flaws with how the story was presented. I don't know whether it was due to the script or the editing, but I felt there was a lot missing that needed to be there. Perhaps this is just me thinking far too much into things, but after two viewings I do have my own nitpicks and criticisms.
(A lot has to do with the twist at the end which I felt failed, because aside from the predictability there was little setup with that to the point where it just fell incredibly flat, and not just with the Depp casting.)
Sadly, there is only the published script. I don't think JKR wants to write a full novelization, though IMHO I think she should. Scripts are great and all, but I want more depth, more substance, more background on characters and situations and this world/era that we're seeing more of. Scripts can only reveal so much. And this begs the question if there is going to be publicized scripts for all the five movies? And if so, is it even necessary?

I DO wonder what they were thinking with the Depp casting, although it may have been before the abuse story came out.

Me too - especially as this is the very thing JKR is known for.

It was filmed last year, so yeah it was definitely before everything involving the now known domestic abuse. :/
I heard that they wanted someone "iconic" for the role of Grindelwald, but what on earth made them think Depp was that person? Considering he has been hamming it up with phoning in his performances for the last several years now? It just feels like they picked a known name in Hollywood so the rest of the films will make bank. I know this is me being bitter and petty, but they honestly could've literally gotten anyone else but him for this role.
