Snowflake Challenge: Letter to Fandom

Jan 15, 2018 11:13

For me, it's best expressed in memes and .gifs.

Primarily refers to  Harry Potter fandom, but it applies to others as well. (Sidenote: I did "write" a love video of sorts a few years ago just for the Harry Potter  fandom.)

Dear fandom,

We  had some interesting times.

The dramatic exits when someone got butthurt.

And their inevitable return.

When kids took over the community, and all the text turned pink.

Or when you realized you were "the kid."

Then there was that one troll who was kept around for... reasons?

Or how about the one who didn't seem to understand the whole point of a fan community?

And, of course, the one who seemed a little... disturbed.

Oh, and the sockpuppets.

BNFs being, well, BNF-y...

And the ship wars. Man, the ship wars.

This was us during many wankfests:

Conversely, sometimes we got a little too involved.

But you know what? Things weren't always that bad. Sometimes we got to be unapologetically silly...

Cosplay could be awesome...

And those auto-changed words that gave the forum a little more jazz.

Fan podcasts...

Mostly, it was just nice to have friends when the going got rough. Especially as years passed and we grew up. Because honestly?

So, fandom, my fandom. Or should it be fandoms, my fandoms? Whatever. Point is, you could be great. You could be bonkers. You could reduce me to headaches and tears. But I would never have it any other way.
