Hey, buddy! Back off the Middle America thing! The Southwest is just as bad about over-using a/c.

I am in a building with tons of units and everyone has free utilities. I am sure we are all slowly destroying the Earth.

I feel slightly guilty. But not really because I was conserving like crazy for three years while I was paying electricity bills.

So in any event, you should not feel bad about yourself.

I just bought a window unit too! I picked it up off CraigsList for $60, but I'm self conscious about using it so I don't put it below 78-degrees and it's always on the "Economy" mode (whatever that is)

Are you paying for your own utilities? I'm going to cough up a pretty penny for my little winter wonderland...

a couple weeks ago, i knew i wasn't going to be home all day, so i figured i could let the day go without leaving the air on (which i had been doing... even going full blast, my little apartment STILL reached 88 degrees some days).

i got home that night of no AC at midnight, and it was 104 F'ING DEGREES IN MY APARTMENT. my candles were melted. my things burned my fingers upon touch. the toilet seat burned my poor white tushy. if i had fish, they would have been cooked.

which leads me to this conclusion: my psychological well being is more important than energy conservation.

i applaud your purchase.
