Rory pouted.

With a red scribble on one cheek, and a red A+ on the other.

She sat on her bed with Vladdie in her lap, reading Pride and Prejudice and smiling occasionally at the notes she had made in the margins.

And then occasionally adding new ones. In blue. Because today, red? Kind of annoying.

[And now not so safe for work, oops.]

Anakin let himself into the room and quickly hid a smile at the writing on her face.

"So," he said, "how was your day?"

Anakin? Crayon-free.

Rory pouted.

"John turned into an alien or something and a crayon wrote on me," she said woefully.

Anakin sat next to her on the bed. "What kind of alien?" he asked, swiping at the writing on her cheek, then kissing it. "And poor you."

Rory reached for her camera and clicked through the pictures until she came to the one of John in class earlier.

"That. I don't know what that is. And the crayon tried to give me a B+, but I renegotiated," she said a bit smugly.

"I'm not that special," Rory said, shaking her head. "Sure, I'm unique and we're all snowflakes and blah blah, but it's not like I'm some special snowflake that snows upwards or anything. I'm just...me. So seriously. Not a big deal. Not like, you know, I've been prophesized about or anything."

Anakin looked very, very confused. "Snow can snow upwards?" he finally asked.

Desert boy. Not so good with the cold-weather analogies.

"And really, it's easier if you're not prophesized about." He blew out a breath. "Not quite so many beings staring at you all the time."

Rory smiled fondly at him. "No, snow follows the laws of physics like everything else. But every snowflake is absolutely unique."

"Sure," she continued, slipping into geek mode, "they all have six lines of symmetry because ordinary ice has a hexagonal crystal structure. And it's possible that a pair of snowflakes could be visually identical if their environments were similar enough, but they'd still be molecularly different."

She blushed. "So what I meant was that people are all unique, and so am I, but not in any exciting way. And yeah...I would imagine that the pressure on you is kind of daunting." She offered a wry quirk of her mouth. "I know what having people with scary expectations is like."

"Wearing a uniform with conviction?" Anakin repeated, blinking. "What does that even mean?"

He gave her a small smile. "You still have the uniform? I could tell you if you're wearing it with conviction or not."

"Yeah, I don't think Paris even knew what she was talking about," Rory said with a roll of her eyes. "And you know I have the uniform. We discussinated this. I don't think I need to be assured of how full of conviction I am with it on, or anything, though."

"Maybe I just wanted to see you in it," Anakin said with a twinkle in his eyes. "In the spirit of helpfulness and all that."

"How can you have a schoolgirl thing?" Rory asked, sighing good-naturedly as she got up and rummaged through her closet for the uniform. "Though, granted, I did tell you there was a short skirt involved. Boo on me."

He had started playing with the waistband of her skirt.

His hands were now toying with the buttons on her shirt.

"I was thinking more like, um, minutes, maybe."

"Now, come on," Rory said with a knowing smirk. "We both know that if you put your mind to it, it'd be under a minute. Especially if I told you that I don't care about the buttons."

Anakin went scarlet.

Then he put his hands around her waist, bent close to Rory's ear and explained.

Rory also went rather red. "Oh." Raising an eyebrow, she twined her legs around his waist.

"Don't you have to, um, concentrate?" she asked, remembering the glitter on Valentine's Day.

"I've been working on it," he said, said giving her a quick kiss.

"Um, concentration. Not this particular use for it."

"I just don't want you to be so busy concentrating on not dropping me that you don't...enjoy yourself," Rory said delicately, leaning close to press a kiss to the hollow of his neck.
