Awesome idea! I was thinking of doing some sort of obstacle course and each kid who finishes the course gets their own sheriff badge and 'evidence bag'
I would have no problem sending Miss Kidlet to a birthday party at a police station, she'd think it was pretty neat. (She turns 6 today.) That sounds like a good solution to me and I bet the kids will love it.
OMG, my girls would LOVE a party at a police station! How much cooler would that be?? You would be the party of the year here. Ah we get invited to parties of a classmate we hardly know but we still bring presents so I would let that be. It is just nice to be invited I would say. Have fun!
Whatever works best for you, and what you are comfortable with should work. I think the police station idea is FABULOUS, however...and with all the projects going on at home, maybe a little safer. Plus, how often do kids get to tour a police station???!?
I wouldn't say anything about presents being optional. No, you're not looking to shower him with presents, but the idea of making it optional doesn't sit well with me.
I think having the party away from home will be much less stressful than trying to do something at the house. Although we really could have used the threat of having people over to get some of the small stuff done around here.
Police party is AWESOME. Themed bags, even more so. I wouldn't worry about the perception, and just leave it as is. Most parents I think will not send their kid to a party without a present, regardless. He just met these kids, but you're extending a friendly hand to them 'we want to get to know you better'. And the bags are gifts back.:)
