In essence: nanotechnology* could be used to treat cancer. Between that and the Apophis asteroid, Stargate is just everywhere.

* Yes, I know nanotechnology as scifi trope is not exclusive to Stargate, but still...hee!

Nearly all of my pre-PhD research was somehow related to nanotech. *whistles*
(I feel like this will not surprise you)

And, yeah, I've heard about that research before and it really is awesome and potentially promising. I'm guessing one of the biggest problems is making sure only the "bad" cells get the nanoparticles.

As for the beginning of your post: DON'T WORRY

This actually explains a lot. :-D Yes, I gather making the gold nanotech attach itself directly to only the tumors/cancerous cells is the trick. (That was the issue with the inventor. He just kinda started taking some leaps of faith and self-treating thinking maybe leukemia cells with/without chemo had higher metallic content. It worked for a while, possibly as placebo effect).

Who's worried? Me worried? I'm not worried. Not worried at all. *worries with normal writer angst* :-D

Hee. No, I want the story not just done, but done *right*, and I'm way too close to it to judge so I do GREATLY appreciate the outside perspective.

You can't be pie in the sky, but...it's nice to have hope.

From personal experience, hope is one of the strongest treatments there is. It's good to hear about positive discoveries like this, even if they are years off. Thanks for sharing it!

Yep, can't go wrong with hope. It is exciting potential for the long term. What sold it to me was the oncologist going...this is the most promising thing I've seen in twenty years of cancer research. I don't remember where he worked now, but I think a corporate CEO and Nobel winner would be getting a guy who's pretty well respected in his field, so...

Oooh, Tell me I'm the one who turned you onto I, Spy. I've been loving it on Hulu. My only complaint is that the final two seasons aren't up yet.

LOL. You turned me onto the Prisoner (that show is pretty wacked, you know). I know I'd heard about it recently and then when Cosby appeared on Leno, my mom was talking to me about it and then was talking about I Spy and...

I decided on a lark to see if Hulu was showing it! Hee. I'm only a few eps in (stupid pilot isn't there). I couldn't believe Culp had written the like fifth or sixth episode. And it was Cosby focused with Eartha Kitt and--a lot of complexity in her character than the standard "light action fare" I expected. So good.

Culp also wrote the first episode which had more Cosby than might be expected.

Yes, The Prisoner is whacked. *G* I caught you, though.

"Whacked" might actually be too light of a term for The Prisoner...

'I Spy' was a wonderful show! I think my favorite shows of that era were I Spy, The Avengers, and The Prisoner--and the original Star Trek, of course. ;)

LOL. I liked Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched (and the Monkees!) Er, I learned most of my sixties tv from after school reruns I'm actually pretty new to the others. The PRisoner and I Spy. I've only ever heard of the Avengers, but someday I want to see the awesomeness that is Emma Peel.

Oh yes, and Star Trek. That was a staple. :-D

I always liked the ones you mentioned, and as a kid they were always on in rerun at a time I was allowed to watch TV. I saw the Avengers about the same time because my mother was a huge fan, and she thought Emma Peel was a much better influence than Jeannie. And, of course, she was right. ;)

Run, run to watch The Avengers! (and don't skip the ones in black and white)

Oh, it should also be noted that The New Avengers was absolutely awful.

One thing I still love Amazing Race...especially that my favorite teams (aside from one who got kicked off) are still safe and the hated team is gone. Someday I will write that TAR/SG-1 crossover.

i love the amazing race!

i might read a TAR/SG1- crossover, but how would it go? if you put a couple of them on the race, which 2? or have them encounter the racers as they go through colorado springs?

LOL. I was thinking WAY crackier.

Like an intragalactic version with teams of say Jonas & Thor. Sam & Jacob as the father/daughter team. Ba'al and Osiris as the evil (just doing it for teh famewhoring team)--they'd get rejected for cheating, of course.
