cottage country

Just a quick post before I take my weary self off to bed. Had a nice weekend in Muskoka, though the weather was almost as cold - definitely as wet and miserable - as the last time we went a fortnight ago. Still, it's was wonderful to get out of the city, just the two of us, and getting away from the cats too ( Read more... )

daytrip, muskoka, daily life

I'm am soooooo envious of your Blue Castle, and what a view to wake up to! *sigh* I hope I get there one day - preferably before you leave!

If this gets your arse into gear and makes you visit than that's not a bad thing! Start makin' plans baby!

I remember when someone told me about people who have to have a starter castle as their first home.

A "starter castle"!? Not even sure what that means but it sounds...ostentatious!

It would a first time buyer who thinks they need a first home that rivals that of someone who has slowly moved themselves up the property ladder in increments of say 20 years.

Ah, I see. Muskoka cottages definitely aren't starter castles, that's for sure - they're often completely over-the-top weekend houses with all mod cons and ridiculous price tags. Ugly, in other words. The really old ones are quite nice, though. Naturally, the people who actually live in the area(s) can barely afford to anymore.

Gorgeous pictures. I'm horribly jealous. Can't help thinking the white plastic chair stands out against the rest of it, though. *waves magic wand and turns it into wicker or something*

It keeps jabbing me in the eye too, I really should have moved it out of the way first... They have nice dark wicker chairs there now (guess your magic wand works after all :)!).

Yep, Barney lived on an island like this on a lake like this somewhere in Muskoka. It's a really big area with a lot of lakes ... did the book ever mention which lake it was? I can't remember now...

Oh, that is stunning!
And the 'cottage' is huge! It looks absolutely lovely though.

Australia must look so ... bland, now!!

Not at all! I'd still rather be there than here most days. The cottage is the one place so far that I really like, but I still by far prefer eucalypts to pine trees! They're so dark and ominous.... and there're BEARS in those woods! So glad we're on an island... also cause there've been cases of creepy men hiding in the woods raping women... Yep, an island is definitely the way to go!

I'd love to see a bear. Not meet a bear, but to see one would be cool.
As for creepy men, well, they're everywhere.

But it sounds like living in a book!

I saw one, slipping in through the trees at the side of the road not far from the marina. We've seen deer too, and moose, once, alongside the highway - the moose was very cool!

Very true - but it's so cheesy teenager slasher flick when you're in these Canadian woods...
