cottage country

Just a quick post before I take my weary self off to bed. Had a nice weekend in Muskoka, though the weather was almost as cold - definitely as wet and miserable - as the last time we went a fortnight ago. Still, it's was wonderful to get out of the city, just the two of us, and getting away from the cats too :)

Here's a shot from Saturday morning, when the fog (mist? what's the difference again? not that it matters, cause it doesn't photograph well!) was still low over Lake Mary:

View southwards towards Port Sydney from the cottage on Snowshoe Island

I hope that looks as good on your PC as it does on our iMac, but it will probably lose some of the gorgeous blue-purple colour.

I realised I don't think I've ever posted photos of the cottage before, so I've dredged up some from last year that aren't too bad - though cause it's a small, rocky island it's not easy to get a good, comprehensive shot.

The first shot is of the main room - the chimney you can see there was all that was left after the original cottage burnt down years before Adam's parents bought the place. But they've since expanded the main house, as you can see from the shot on the right. Sorry it's a bit dark; I should really have taken it in the morning, since it's east-facing.

"Cottage" is a bit of a - what's the word? "non sequitur"? no, "misnomer" - the places that people build in Muskoka are certainly not real cottages, not anymore. This one's pretty big by my standards, but it's definitely one of the smaller ones - and it's really lovely, with big cathedral ceilings and lots of windows and the stained cedar looks great. One last shot, of the back:
