What aunt_zelda Thinks: Once Upon a Time in Texas

Once Upon a Time in Texas:

You just know that when watching and recapping a show feels like a chore that you're not enjoying it anymore. *sighs* I'm going to keep at this for a little while longer, until the Christmas break at least, but no guarantees after that. I love the laughs from the meta-ing, the good scenes and the original ideas ... ( Read more... )

I kind of agree with you about the show losing its magic. While I've enjoyed watching most of this volume up until this episode, I've been watching it more passively than any other volume, and I'm glad that it's looking like the show will be done after this. It caught a bad break from the Writers' Strike and just never seemed to recover from it, IMO. Then the writers kept trying - too hard, it feels like from my perspective - to recapture the magic of S1, but it's not as simple as going back in time to when things were fresh and popular and enjoyable. That almost takes away from how good S1 was.

Argh, sorry for ranting there for a minute, but this ep just really made me angry. One of the things that really pissed me off is that Hiro rejected the lesson he had learned ONCE AGAIN and it was, like you said, all done to get Mohinder back. I think they could have gone about that another way, but what you said here:

So ... that's why [Mohinder] hasn't been monologing ... gee, this is awkward ...is interesting because I didn't even ( ... )

It's sad but true. The lesbian-kiss episode was the straw that broke my back. I'd been making excuses for a while, letting the show get away with, well, MURDER (*coughcough* ADAM *coughcough*) and letting them ridicule us loyal fans with horrible crimes to continuity, characters, and sanity.
*sighs*

Me too. I haven't got TV anymore, so I'm watching it online. I was doing that last year, but last year I'd watch it Tuesday afternoon or earlier, getting all excited and rushing to the episode. This season ... I watch it Thursdays or even Fridays or Saturdays, really I'm only recapping promptly because of the heroes_meta deadline.
That's really, really sad.

That actually turned out to be a creative way to explain why Samuel had taken over the monologues, rather than have it just be because he's a new, significant character and Mohinder is in India because he was over and done with all the Specials business. This is true. ( ... )

A Conversation in the Writers' Room:

"So Samuel needs Hiro to help save Mohinder?"
"Yeah, but he's underhanded, so just asking isn't his style."
"Ok, so maybe have him hold someone hostage. Who does Hiro care about?"
"Uh... Charlie?"
"Ooh, I was going to suggest someone sensible like Kimiko, but this way we can recapture the glory of season one!"
"Sweet!"
"But, wait, isn't Charlie dead?"
"Oh, yeah..."
"Oh, but Hiro's a time traveller!"
"Right!"
"Ok, let's run with it. Someone tell Masi he's getting featured in an episode. People still like Hiro, right?"

Oh, wow, that's more snark than I thought I had in me...

Heroes: the show that brings out the snark in the best of us.

"Ooh, I was going to suggest someone sensible like Kimiko, but this way we can recapture the glory of season one!"
*brainfizzle* If Samuel had kidnapped Kimiko, not only would it have provided opportunity for Kimmy to kick all kinds of carnie ass (which she totally would have, she is a BAMF, it has been shown in the online graphic novels) it would have made Hiro and Ando team up to rescue her! PERFECT! WHY AREN'T WE WRITING FOR THIS SHOW?!

WHY AREN'T WE WRITING FOR THIS SHOW?!))

That's a question I ask myself every day, Zel-chan lol.

Oh, and you probably want to take a look at my LJ soon for what I shall next post (Besides the Last Days of Ten, I have another epic idea. I shall finish both of these damn it! Oh! And I also finished Chapter One of my uber-Dresden Files story and as it is for an uber-fic, the first chapter is uber-long lol. I'm going to send it to you in an email to read! Let me know what you think of it! You're one of the only ones I trust to let me know how it REALLY is. =P)

Samuel explains in a dull tone who Dead Old Guy was, that he was a Time Traveler too, and that he had a tumor as well and his body couldn't handle the strain. Uh ... so this is a problem for time travelers? Why only them? Do people who fly get respiratory issues?

Hey, you! Long time no see! *hugs*

::gigglesnort::
Well it's an interesting thing. Is the time travel ability not meant to be passed on? In keeping with the evolution thingamabob, the abilities shouldn't be killing the users, and the users should be passing them onto their kids, right? *shrugs* I got nothin'.

I used to have a 'HOMG I LOVE THIS SHOW OMG HEROES TONIGHT WOOHOO AYYIIIIII!' relationship with this show. Now I have a 'love/hate/betrayal' thing with it. Which is ok I guess, but still very sad.
