I used the cover of the December 2005 issue of National Geographic as my inspiration.

Godzilla Is For Wimps

How many of you still won’t go?

LMAO - when I was married we lived 20 minutes from the ocean, and he wouldn't touch it. Because of sharks. I thought he was mad.

Damn, I wish I could show him this.

I'm still leery of going into water that I can't see the bottom of.

But I still check under the bed for pods too; so you can't go by me.

Not that I'm opposed to space exploration (I'm a long-time Trekkie), but I always wondered why they didn't expend any effort in exploring the oceans? Which have the advantage of being a lot closer.

Maybe it's because I'm a desert rat, but I'm more interested in what could be in really deep mines and mountains... excellent story, although I pictured the storyteller dressed in the stereotypical "professor's tweed" even after he announced he was a dinosaur.
