Michael laid down on his bed, his feet firmly supplanted to the floor. Today had been no less than aggravating. It seemed that whenever he tried to talk to Anthony, Hannah was either there or pulling him away. Terry was off chatting up the girls in Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. Megan seemed sullen and moody. Ernie... Ernie had cracked up. When Michael had tried to meet eyes with his mate, Ernie seemed gleefully consumed in either his work or what was presumably plotting ( ... )

"I hope so," Ernie replied, fighting back a silly grin. "I really appreciate this, mate. Thanks again."

He started leading Michael down a set of stairs, which immediately started moving as soon as they made it onto the first step. "I didn't waylay any plans or something, did I? Wait, of course not, you would have told me if you were busy, right mate?"

"Sure mate, sure. Anything for love, ay?" Michael smiled. Inside, he was screaming. Throttling Anthony. "Uhh nothing... serious." Again, he smiled, but his frustration was palpable. "Everyone's been so... busy today. I hardly got to talk to anyone or see them.

"Shya, of... course." Michael replied to Ernie's last statement. "Why, did someone say anything was important?" Michael tested in his cagey Ravenclaw way.

Michael walked steadily next to Ernie, and looked to his friend. He studied his features. He looked... hopeful. Nervous, maybe, a tick. "You look like you're about to burst."

Ernie held back a snicker, glad to hear that his orders had been followed. Michael remained unaware of what lay ahead of him, and Ernie couldn't help feeling proud that finally something was going according to plan. For a brief moment, he wondered if Michael would feel hurt when he found out what Ernie had done - but once he entered the party, all would be forgiven, Ernie was certain of it.

"Nobody said anything, mate. I just didn't want to feel like I was pulling you away from something important just to help me out with my love life."

Ernie was thankful that the stairs finally stopped moving and they could start heading downstairs. "Burst? Who, me? No, not me, I won't burst. Got nothing to burst about, me-"

He quickly snapped his mouth shut before he could babble on any further.

Every second that ticked by and Ernie didn't appear with Michael in tow was nearly torture to Luna. She felt like one of the balloons she'd conjured, one that had been blown up really far, and any moment now she was going to burst - but no, she had to wait until Michael arrived. She had to.

She had a few giggle fits behind her hand as they waited tensely behind the door of the armory, despite her attempts to keep quiet. Her buoyancy had to get out somehow.

And then it happened. The sound of the door opening, and Luna clapped both hands over her mouth to keep from shouting too early. She was surprised to see that the first one in was Ernie, but there was Michael behind him and she all but leapt into the air. "SURPRISE!"

Anthony had been more composed than Luna, while the stood in the room and waited, but the minute he saw Ernie with Michael - he too grew excited. He had seriously hoped that Michael would be suprised by their plans. Hannah had made sure that Anthony had not had a moment alone with Michael all day - randomly dragging him off to no where in particular to have fake conversations about studying or prefect duties.

He was intensely relieved not to have to keep the secret any longer. "Suprise, mate. Happy Birthday!"

Michael went from being in the complete doldrums to shock to feeling a strange, quixotic mix of guilt and elation... all in about five seconds. He stood there, unaware that his mouth was cocked slightly open, staring at the gathering of friends. His grey gaze shifted to each person present. Terry, Anthony, Hannah, Megan, Luna, Megan... he met eyes with many others too.

Michael's mouth slowly curlled into a smile and he rolled his eyes. "Should've known Ernie and Megan weren't on the rocks... and meeting up in the Armory of all romantic places." By then, the pink tinge on his normally fair cheeks was in full blossom. He curled his bangs behind his ear. And then he rushed forward. His long and lanky body jumped forth and wrapped around Anthony's body, forcing the boy to hold up Michael's rather delicate frame. And he hugged Anthony, placing a couple of hammy and comical kisses on the boy's scalp before he climbed down. Next he turned to Luna...

Ernie still felt bad for having accidentally hurt Michael, but the look on his friend's face more than made up for it. That was all he'd hoped for, all he'd wanted for his friend's birthday.

Since this was Michael's day and Michael's party, Ernie simply stood back and to the side, allowing his friend to be the center of attention and watching the fun from the sidelines.

Pansy approached the door to the Ravenclaw tower with a slightly sour expression, the expression familiar but the face quite different. It had only taken a bit of persuasion on Tracey's part to get Pansy in on a bit of party crashing. At least it was a distraction from her interrupted time with Draco (that midgety underclassman would pay!) but if they were going to do it, they would do it properly. She ran her fingers through her straight blonde hair, just mousy enough to blend into a crowd. The blunt bangs, a homage to her childhood. Then of course she'd lightened the circles under her eyes along with her eyelashes and eyebrows, softened the shape of her face a bit... then, last but not least, charmed her nose straight and a little long. All school colors were carefully left behind- tie and robes. Tucked into her school skirt was a silver flask of firewhisky from their last Hogsmeade weekend ( ... )

Of course the crashing idea was Tracey's but only Pansy could have pulled off giving them the cover needed. And what better than a little charm work on Pansy's behalf. Naturally seeing her curly red hair replaced by boring brown and pin straight hair was a shock to her system but it was okay. They were going to fit in with a bunch of other houses. And the school had few redheads quite like her. And as they slipped through the door Pansy scolded her once more about her nose.

"Well if you didn't make it so large, it would be fine." She retorted in an equally hushed voice.

But soon the girl allowed the phony smile cross her face as she hunted for the food section, making sure the Weasley joke food would be properly put in place.

"Oy," A voice greeted to the imposter Tracey. It was Hannah Abbott, who approached Tracey's side and made a move for the punch. She was dressed in her Hufflepuff robes, complete with her Prefect badge.

"Great spread ay? The House Elves really went full out." Hannah took the punch up and prepared to sip it. "So what House are you two in? I haven't seen you around." Hannah tucked her long, loose blonde hair behind her ears and prepared to sip the punch. Her eyes shifted from Tracey to the disguised Pansy, her look a friendly one.

Tracey nearly jumped out of her skin as Hannah approached them. While inside she thought she was caught along with Pansy, her hand forcing the flask back under Pansy's skirt (luckily the action was hidden by the table) before the other girl had the chance to pour any. The giddy smile plastered on Tracey's face as she looked at the prefect.

"It looks really good. We're Gryffindors... my friend had a boy asking to meet her on this floor and we thought he was in here..."
