I deleted my other response, here's a clearer explanation:

canon event changed - something went differently than it did in canon

canon historical event changed - something from "precanon" went differently

historical moment changed - a major historical event from canon went differently

Is historical moment defined as a historical moment in the real world that is also represented in canon?

A historical moment needs to be a 'big event' in history that gets changed.

For example, you're SPN right? So maybe for alt. history: historical moment changed, you do that the South won the Civil War. How does that butterfly out and effect Sam and Dean etc?

But maybe you're not in a fandom where the 'real world' is the basis. Maybe in - um, say Star Wars - your alt. history: historical moment changed is that the Jedi never got wiped out.

a 'canon event' is different from a 'historical moment'A historical canon event would be an event set 'pre-canon'. While historical moment needs to be a big event, historical canon event could be something small and character specific. (It could be a big event, but it doesn't have to be ( ... )

Not awkward at all! Differentiation that makes sense in our heads doesn't necessarily translate, so questions are good :-) Do you mind if we link to this thread from the prompts post, in case others have a similar question about the difference?
