So, I'm packing up my clothes for a solo trip to Holiday Faire (in Atlantia, for my foreign kingdom readers - all two of you that are probably left, since I'm not on Facebook), and I've done my usual thing to make sure that I bring both the top and the bottom part of my outfit (don't laugh; it could happen to you).  That thing is pointing the ( Read more... )

I live in fear, FEAR, I tell you, of going to a reenactment and forgetting some important thing that i can't just run out and buy. (Shoes, hat, etc.)

It happened to us once - a pair of trousers happened to not be there when expected. Some *very* hurried calls to friends, and things were fine, but it was dicey for a moment.

I have a recurring dream that I'm getting dressed for an event, and it's getting later and later, and I can't find my outfit.

I was packing for an event a couple months ago. I went to the closet, grabbed my fur-trimmed giornea, put it on the hanger with my black wool doublet, and packed it up in the car. Fast forward to Saturday afternoon. I went to change into my fancy clothes for the evening, flipped back the giornea to find the 16th century suit I made out of the same black wool as the 15c doublet that was supposed to be there. I ended up wearing a sleeping tunic I had packed on a whim and a mantello that I hoped would hide it well enough. And my wife's socks.

Still got an Outlander reading here. :) I know what you mean about the weight of linen. I can't believe I went to Ireland for a week and took a bag that weighed less than the overnight bag for an event.

I'm not an Atlantean, but I read you anyway. Every time I garb up I wonder how those poor Elizabethans tromped around with 50# of clothes on their backs every single day. They needed those corsets just to keep from crumpling!
