working in the library, isolated, rhythmic, pushing the cart, picking up books, shifting shelves.

i listen to my portable radio, npr--depressing world news and classical music in my two hour block. remarkably good reception for a first-level basement between stacks.

Are the book cases metal? If so then they may be acting as giant attenas improving the reception of you radio when it is placed on them.

But then maybe not. I don't really know what I'm talking about.

they are metal! I'd thought about that, but not in any detail. i like your theory. next time i'm working i'll imagine myself in a big radio antenna. :) (and thanks)
