Johnny was less than thrilled. Normally he could be sarcastic, but there was something about Victor that made even him act somewhat serious and mature. He hadn't trusted Doom alone, so he'd left him with Ben in the lobby, and now he was walking into Hank and Reed's lab with an irritated look on his face.

In fact, his hair was on fire.

"Not inside the building," Reed commented, smelling the smoke before he even looked up from his work to glance at Johnny. When he noticed the look on his brother-in-law's face, however, he paused. "What is it?"

Johnny glanced at Hank, giving him a 'here we go' look before explaining, "Victor is here. He wants to see you two. Something about a time machine and alternate realities. I told him to shut the hell up but he started in with some calculus, so I said I'd get you two."

"Oh Jesus." Hank replied, he had been sitting at one of the far back tables, reading the latest report on- what else, the slightly infamous 'expansion' of energy. Today's bedtime was story was brought to you by a husband-wife team out of Japan, who had their own theory as to why the other side of the world should no longer exists. Typically, when Johnny or any of the 'proper' team came in, Hank let their conversations pass over him, not necessarily for his daily living or projects. However, when the name 'Victor' came up, his eyebrows followed suit along with his head.

"Do we let him in? Should we?"

Even as he questioned their location possibilities, he was standing up and removing his lab coat- one should always dress their best in such... situations.

"Your call Reed."

"Good god, you didn't leave him alone did you?" Reed asked, staring at Johnny in shock.

Johnny rolled his eyes. "I may be a hothead, but no, I'm not that stupid," he replied. And then, glancing up he realized his hair was still on fire and put it out.

Reed glanced at Hank, sighing for a moment before telling Johnny, "Send him up." He wouldn't really try anything in the lab, would he?

"You sure he's not a mindreader?" Hank asked, almost bemused. "Otherwise his timing is almost creepy."

He refused to admit the third option, where Reed had gone ahead and contacted him in regards to this without telling him. He wasn't of course, Reed's babysitter, but he had thought there was some form of an understanding between them.

Decked out in her usual distracting lingerie, Emma's blue eyes seemed to scan the horizon, but her view went much farther than physical appearance. While Erik gave his speech, Emma silently assessed the area, psychically searching for the enemy nearby. Some of them had mental shields, but not all of them. The Shadow Kind apparently cared less about some.

Looking at Erik, she sent him a thought she also broadcast to Havok, Magma, and Polaris.

[[I can't tell who they are in particular, but there are far more of them than the Guthrie family. We are facing an army. They want Havok alive for some reason.]]

[[An army of amateurs and inbred children. They won't take the mansion, and they won't take Havok.]]

Erik relayed back, knowing she'd send it through the mental communication bond to the others too.

But just to her, he sent:

[[Protect the mansion, and stay safe. Keep an eye on Alex, and if it seems he's been taken by them and we can't get to him before they give him to Charles, shut him down.]]

No matter what happened, they couldn't let Alex fall into the Shadow King's hands.
That was even more important than protecting the children.
With that power, the Shadow King could kill them all regardless.

His speech finished, Erik assigned everyone to their teams and their tasks.

But everyone had trained for this, everyone knew what to do, and everyone knew that Emma would be with them as an open line of communication when they needed orders or assistance.

Everyone knew how to best play their part.

[[I will keep watch over him.]] It was a psychic promise she sent only to Erik after sending the others Erik's message.

Emma sighed, looking around the battlefield before taking on her diamond form. A lot of these kids were going to die, which was unfortunate because she was fond of some of them, but they needed to save Benjamin. No one knew better than her what Ben was suffering through.

She glanced at Amara in particular, sending her a psychic message as well.

[[Havok is our priority. I will keep him sane, you keep him alive. I can hide us from the enemy as long as their powers are not psychic.]] God forbid the Shadow King show up himself.

Amara had already started for the North side of the building, hoping to flank the group that had been stationed there, most likely waiting until they'd thinned out. She didn't pause when Emma's message came through, stalking through the woods, her blonde hair hidden by a dark cloth, keeping her blended in to the scenery, boots not making a sound as she moved carefully.

[[I understand. I'll make sure he stays with us, or I'll make sure he can't be taken back to be used against us.]] It would kill her, but she'd do what had to be done. This was war. Hard choices had to be made.

Jean hovered five feet off the ground, eyes blazing and body enveloped in the fire of the Phoenix. She had fully embraced the energy being, realising that she would be needing every scrap of power that Phoenix gave her. In a battle such as this was going to be it didn’t matter whether or not anyone figured out that she was more in control than she had been pretending to be; or that she had long since fully acknowledged the power she contained. She just didn’t want everyone and their brother knowing that she had. Hence her façade of lack of control and refusal to embrace the energy being residing within her.

That had been part of the reason that Jean had mind-fucked Havok. It had been a very clear message that she sent; “DO NOT MESS WITH ME.” She had done something similar with a member of The Shadow King’s cadre. He had, unfortunately, not made it through with his sanity fully intact. Of course, The Shadow King had royally pissed her off by sending the Guthries after her. It was only after the mind-fuckery that they had stopped ( ... )

Logan's eyes took in everything like a predator. He'd already sliced through at least eight kids, and they just kept coming at him like stupid lemmings. Cutting through their skeletons was like slicing through half-melted butter, and he was almost bored.

Until he caught her scent. And then suddenly it was all worth it.

Catching a ninth kid by the ribs with one blood-covered hand, his claws slicing out through the spine and back, he looked around. "Jean?" He knew she would be able to hear him--or sense him, or both.

Jean almost laughed as she heard him call her name. He was calling for her. How sweet. This... was going to be a little bit fun. It had been a very long time since they had had the opportunity to just let loose in battle. The loss of life was sad, and more than a little unfortunate, but death had been rampant in the world since the Shadow King had claimed his throne.

This was a necessary battle, so she might as well find enjoyment where she could. And currently, that was going to be fighting Wolverine. The flames enveloping her body burned brightly, and she soared higher, scanning the crowd with both her eyes and her mind. To anyone who didn’t know her, it might have seemed a foolish move. Those that did, though, knew that she was FAR from vulnerable.

[[Hello, lover]]She couldn’t help the burning that accompanied her message; it was one of the side effects of fully embracing the Phoenix. She had tried to tamp down on it when she had been speaking with Erik or the others prior to the battle beginning, but she didn’t bother with that ( ... )

He winced, raising an eyebrow at the burning pain that shot through his system with her psychic message. Logan realized all at once that she had finally fully embraced the Phoenix. She had embraced it, and she wasn't on their side, she was running around with these costumed freaks.

"Oh darling," he replied sarcastically, eyes scanning the sky to look for her, "you've made a mistake siding with them."

“Poor baby,” she retorted, mere moments before he slammed into her and plunged his claws through her body. Her feet thudded to the ground, momentarily distracted from flying by the metal now piercing her through. She hissed in pain, refusing to cry out. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.

Eyes dropping down to his hand for a second, she smirked. “No one will ever leave a scar quite like you.” She grabbed his wrist excruciatingly tight, holding his claws inside her body unless he retracted them. At the same time she tangled a hand in his hair. And then she channelled more cosmic fire, pulling it into her. It filled the flames emanating from her body, enveloping the two of them.

As she did so she reached out, scanning the battlefield for one mind in particular. Found you...

[[Have a gift for you]]

She tamped down on the burning again for Erik, keeping it to a minimum. Then Jean wrenched his claws from her stomach and lifted off the ground, carrying him with her. She was carrying him to Magneto.

He tried to pull her hand away, but she had too strong of a grip on him. Phoenix really was fucking impossibly strong. The pain was excruciating, and he hadn't even realized who she was dragging him towards yet. Claws out, he tried to stab her again, but she was moving too quickly.

It wasn't until he caught Erik's scent that he stilled in his struggle to break free of Jean and instead focused on looking around to locate the man. The one mutant Logan feared.

Erik felt that adamantium coming closer as a starved man might smell a roast beef dinner, and of course he'd heard Phoenix's words moments before, blocking out that burning sensation that always accompanied her with his mental walls.

He just got done slicing Lizard up, his sword gliding clean through him a few times, splitting his abdomen from his thorax, Erik moved towards where he felt Jean coming with Wolverine, practically salivating.

"Why, Logan... it's been a while, hasn't it. Missed me?"

Close enough now, he took full control and hold over that glorious skeleton, and hauled Logan from Phoenix, tossing him about midair a little, smacking him hard against the cold ground, battering him against the earth, before throwing him back.

"Do you think you might be so kind as to keep a firm hold on his flesh and blood body for me, Phoenix, dear?" He had an ever so strong craving for skeleton to be parted from body.
