Day 56, late morning; jumper left on the Mainland/Radio; Attn: Elizabeth [F]

Apr 20, 2010 17:45

Ridley slipped into the jumper and made his way to the front, carefully lowering himself into the pilot's seat and activating the comm, calling Atlantis. He had considered using the communications equipment left for that purpose in the expedition DRASH, but had felt too exposed, too likely to be overheard. He felt unsettled enough that when whoever ( Read more... )

She was just going to fetch her mid morning break coffee when her radio sounded, and she was told she had a call from the mainland.

"This is Dr Weir," Elizabeth answered, heading out of her office toward the mess. "How can I help you Dr Parrish?"

"Doctor Weir," Ridley greeted. "I, ah, j-just had a conversation with Selen Arolas and I wanted to be sure you were, um, aware of the situation. It, ah, it s-seems they're in some sort of a... well, at least a dom-domination and submission relationship, possibly with some... ah... s-sadomasochism involved s-somehow. W-with Doctor Z-Zelenka as the, ah, the sub, or, um, 'pack' as the A-Athosians call it. It w-wasn't entirely clear, but, ah, I w-was just c-concerned that D- that Doctor Zelenka wasn't, ah, b-being taken a-advantage of." He stopped and drew a breath. It was out now. What she chose to do with the information was up to her.

Elizabeth stopped in her tracks and then cast about quickly for someplace to step out of the corridor. This looked to be a conversation that should in no part be public. A door to a balcony caught her eye a moment later and then she was out in the chill air asking the botanist to clarify himself.

"You said you had a conversation with Selen, Radek's... partner?" she asked. "And he was completely forthcoming with you? He didn't seem to be hiding what he and Radek were doing, or the nature of their relationship?"

"N-no," Ridley replied. "Well, yes, the c-conversation was w-with Selen, but no, he's, ah, d-definitely n-not hiding. He was quite... quite blunt, actually. He, ah, he said th-that R-Radek was unc- uncomfortable w-with, ah, d-doing anything in p-public, in public, till I, ah, knew. And I'm not... really not t-trying to be judgemental, but, ah, one of m-my cardinal r-rules of relation... relationships is that if my p-partner ev-ever hit me, th-that was it, y-you know? S-so, I, ah, I r-really don't get this."

Elizabeth pinched the bridge of her nose, carefully choosing the right words to put Dr Parrish at ease without insinuating things about Dr Zelenka that might or might not be true.

"Thank you for letting me know about this, Doctor," she said. "I appreciate the information, but I encourage you to withhold your judgment regarding what may be going on between Selen and Dr Zelenka. Intelligent adults may negotiate and consent to such relationships of their free will, and it may be that this is a relatively common practice among the Athosians, given what Selen apparently told you."

Elizabeth paused to wrap her sweater more tightly around her as a gust of chilly wind struck the balcony where she stood. Yet another motivation to conclude this conversation as quickly as possible.
