Aiden wasn't sure what to think of the chaplain and his attempts to sway Aiden from his faith. All he could think was that the man was testing him somehow to verify his faith was sure and steadfast. The prayer the chaplain offered up at the end had been encouraging and Aiden had lost himself in it, hoping the Lord could take away the jangling in his nerves, the burning need for more of the demon poison.
"'All things work together for good for those who love the Lord,'" Aiden repeated the words that Chaplain had used. In trying times, we need to remember that, son. Sometimes all we can do is rest upon his promise-- 'All things work together for good for those who love the Lord.' When it gets to be too much, remember that. What did it mean? How was being addicted to demon poison 'good' for him?
