This certainly wasn't the first job Elizabeth had had in which sleeping till seven am qualified as sleeping in. Lately she'd been rising at five-thirty, but she figured she could use it... and so could her bed-mate ( Read more... )

"Not really," Elizabeth said, shaking her head. "It just needs to be something that recognizes our returning expedition members, plus the Athosians and the strangers we've picked up, if possible, and let them know that they've really come home." She gave the Chaplin a wry smile.

"Not a tall order, or anything," she admitted into her coffee.

Chuck walked in to the mess a bit pre-occupied. He had heard that Major Lorne had been one of those that had been rescued. He was glad but it brought back memories. But he wasn't going to let that get him down. He had come too far to let that happen.

Instead he was going to take Conn up on his suggestion of getting some cards and some chips and he had a pretty good idea where to get them. Stopping in the queue to grab something for breakfast, he spotted Conn and made his way to the table.

Noticing that Elizabeth was with him he said, "Excuse me ma'am. Would you mind if I joined you and the Reverend?"

"No, not a tall order at all," Conn answered, grinning and began thinking about what they could do to welcome their people home. "I do believe some sort of feast might be in order..." His voice died as he mulled it over. He'd have to ask the Athosians some questions about what various things symbolised for them, to be sure he didn't accidentally do something that would imply loss rather than welcome. And he'd need to do some research into other Earth cultures.

His contemplation was interrupted by Sgt. Fields's voice. Conn looked up and gave him a smile, but left the decision up to Dr. Weir.

"Not at all," Elizabeth smiled up at Sgt Fields. "As long as you don't mind giving your opinion from time to time. We're planning a celebration to welcome back our newly returned expedition members, along with others who came with them."

"And I like the idea of a feast, Reverend," she continued, turning to the Chaplin. "What do you think of doing something like the Hawaiian tradition of presenting people with those flower necklaces? I don't know why I thought of it, but the image just popped into my mind."

Chuck smiled and said, "I don't mind at all. It will be nice to feel useful."

With that he sat down and listened. It was nice to see Dr Weir looking so happy. Especially after everything that they had gone through.

In some ways Chuck was glad. While he didn't mind getting the deck of cards and the chips, he wasn't too comfortable about where he had to get them.
