It seemed foolish, but Radek was loath to give up Selen's hand as they left the infirmary and headed down the corridor to the transporter that would take them to Carson and Rodney's room. He'd had to when he'd donned the robe Carson had given him, so that he could have some modicum of dignity as he made his way to where his clothes were, but he'd ( Read more... )

Selen gave Radek's hand a small squeeze as they paused outside the quarters where Radek had been staying with Carson and Rodney. The door slid open and they followed their guard into the tent. Apartment, Selen mentally corrected. It seemed strange that only two days before, he and Radek had spent what felt like hours simply kissing and caressing on this couch. There had been the promise there, or more to come... eventually. Selen longed for it, but worried that with what had happened, such a relationship would never come to pass.

"Where are your clothes, my friend? And your teeth-cleaning... thing?"

Radek stepped over to the chest of drawers where Carson had emptied the bottom one for him.

"May I open this and get my clothes myself," he asked the sergeant, "or may I not be trusted with this task?" Springour only shook his head and Radek opened the drawer and extracted pants, a shirt and a pair of underwear. He didn't have all than many clothes, and now he had less, as one full set had been ruined, with his victim's blood all over them. Radek paused for a moment, feeling faintly ill, but then the moment passed.

"My toothbrush," Radek said, happy to let himself be distracted by Selen's awkwardness, "Is in the bathroom, on the shelf over the sink, and it is the green one. Rodney's is red and Carson's is blue. Also, my toothpaste is... mostly yellow, with blue writing, on the same shelf."

"I will fetch it," Selen said, heading in the direction that Radek had nodded. He entered the room that had the rain room, washbasin, and pit chair-- he had no idea what the Lanteans called it-- and looked around, spotting the small brushes the Lanteans used for teeth cleaning. He didn't see any jars for holding paste, but spotted some crimped cylindrical things, one of which was yellow with what could be writing in blue on the same shelf. He picked it up as well. There were some hairbrushes and combs and some other things he couldn't recognise in slender jars and metal cylinders and other more mysterious packaging. He supposed these were Carson's and Rodney's things or Radek would have asked for them.

Radek had been provided with soap and cloths for washing in the infirmary. Selen suspected there was some sort of razor for his beard here among his things, but Radek was probably not allowed to have it. He shook his head and returned to the other room.

"Have I chosen correctly?" he asked, holding up the things.

"You have, yes," Radek said with a smile as he stood, clutching the garments he wanted in one hand. He took the toothbrush and toothpaste from Selen, dropping them into the pocket of his robe and then looked up at Sergeant Springour.

"I don't suppose I can be trusted with privacy while I change clothes?" he asked, resigned.

Springour hesitated for a moment, then nodded over at the bedroom. He'd cast a glance at the room when they'd entered the quarters. "You could use the bed room," he suggested. He'd seen the Czech scientist a couple of times in the infirmary, but this was definitely the worst condition he'd witnessed the man in. "I'm sorry Dr Zelenka, it's not personal."
