Carson once again sat in front of his computer staring at the cursor. He needed to email Rodney and felt sick over it. He didn't know how the other man would respond and he really wasn't up for more accusations ( Read more... )

Rodney stared at the screen, frowning at the formal greeting, the very unpersonal "Beckett". For a moment he was hurt, cause this seemed only to prove his point - Carson never was really honest with him. And now that he had witnessed the intimacy between Carson and Jackson, there was no need for Carson to keep his cover of being "friendly" with Rodney. Once having that thought, there was a whole string of thoughts that followed, and none of them was particularly pleasant. Unwilling to make the first step to figure out if he might be wrong and taking into consideration that Carson had been honest with him, Rodney decided to fire back ( ... )

Carson sighed when he read Rodney's return email. It was just as he'd feared. The other man continued to be a jerk and it irritated him to no end that his former lover would continue to be hurtful. Well, he was tired and not going to just cry over it.

From: Carson Beckett
To: Rodney McKay
Subject: visitation

> Nice to know that at least someone wants to see me.
Maybe if you were a nicer person then more people would want to spend time with you.

> In contrast to other people, I am actually able to do that.
Like when you told Radek about the death of the wraith worshiper?

Just be careful about what you say and if Selen is there don't make it an issue.

Beckett

Rodney's feelings of misplaced superiority angered him.

Hurt and confused by the continuous impersonal sound of the mail, Rodney stared at the screen. He was tired, and for a moment considered simply heading over to the infirmary to figure out what really happened, to set things straight. As he re-read Carson's mail, he decided against. It was obvious that Carson had made up his mind. Talking wouldn't change anything. Or even replying his mail. Maybe it was better to let it rest. At least for the evening. He still had the team night he had to attend, and most likely Sheppard wouldn't let him off the hook so easily.

He deleted the reply he was about to compose, shut down the computer and left the lab.

Carson sat for a moment more before giving in to the realization that Rodney was not going to return his email. So there it was, he thought. His lover was not going to talk to him. Rubbing his hands over tired and tearful eyes, he then shut down his computer and left his office.
