Peter left level 9 without hesitation. He didn't need to be told twice that he wasn't needed but he didn't head directly back to the control room. Instead he walked around attempting to get his head together. He had multiple things warring for dominance in his thoughts. His feelings for Elizabeth were, of course, present but he could do nothing but ( Read more... )

It had not been the sort of day Elizabeth would ever wish to repeat, and it had begun as inauspiciously as could possibly be imagined, but she'd managed to get a few worthwhile things accomplished too, so it wasn't a complete wash. That was a little technique that she'd developed for herself, for days when -as is inevitable in diplomacy- there were setbacks. On the days that you watch six weeks of agonizing negotiations go up in smoke, that's the day you should work extra hard to get something accomplished for yourself, so that you could always look back and say, at least I got this done.

She was rather pleased with the Policies and Procedures document that she'd hammered out today, and having it done was something of a relief too. She could go to bed tonight and think about that, and how it was one more sturdy fiber woven into the fragile tapestry that was their little civilization on Atlantis ( ... )

Peter greeted the marine on duty as he made his way to Elizabeth's office. He wanted to spend some time with her, offer his assistance if needed and of course make sure she ate. In theory it was terribly easy but in practice, maybe not. "Good evening, Elizabeth, I brought some dinner and a thank you from Rodney," he said smiling.

"A thank you? From Rodney?" Elizabeth had to smile, knowing that Peter was aware, as she was, that Rodney McKay was not a bad man, but that social graces were not his strong suit.

"And thank you for dinner," she continued. "I thought I'd wait to head to the mess when it was less crowded..." Now there was a nice white lie. "But now that I can smell it I wonder what I was thinking. I'm definitely famished."

Eyes twinkling, Peter said, "Well... he was thanking you for letting me off your hook and out your reach for the moment." His smile grew at her reaction and he reminded himself to do somethng nice for McKay at some point.

"As for dinner, you're very welcome. It not only smells good but it looks good too." Peter would make sure she took care of herself even if he had to do the legwork.

Saving her work and pushing her computer aside, Elizabeth accepted a bowl of stew from Peter, bending her head to draw the fragrance in with a long deep breath. A second later her mouth was really watering.

"Goodness, I had no idea how hungry I was," she said, taking a slice of still warm bread.
