Day 43, control/gate room attn, Radek, Calvin, Rodney, Chuck [F]

The room was shaking as the ship/city dipped into the atmosphere of the planet. Rodney had been expecting it be rough and held on tight to his console. His head was aching, and he was sick with fear and because of the lack of sleep. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had more than two hours of sleep since the attack. No one of those from the science department who survived had had more than a couple of hours of sleep, too. The few of them had been busy with trying to fix primary systems, life support and the gate.

Rodney's body was vibrating and he held on for dear life. They had secured everything in the lab, stashed away all the tools and bits, since they didn't have the dampeners anymore. The lights flickered and the shaking slowed down a bit. Rodney looked over to Radek, just a few meters away. His hair was even more fuzzy than usual and the face probably just as pale as his own, dark rings under his eyes. Looking up, Radek caught his gaze and frowned at him.

"Two minutes," Radek murmured and Rodney nodded.

The sensors had been malfunctioning and they'd not been able to really determine where they actually landed. Touching on one of the large land masses would have been too dangerous, so they decided to take the smaller risk and try a water landing. Of course, there was always the risk of a huge wave rolling back from the shore, depending on how close they were to the coast.

Basically it was either crashing down or being hit by a floodwave.

Closing his eyes, Rodney tightened his grip on the console, preparing for the landing. At least Carson was safe, he thought, feeling a sharp pain in his chest from missing his friend. Rodney was over worrying and in the stage of stubbornly suppressing. He was determined to get the gate working, and the minute the city touched down he'd be in the gate room. He'd been working on stargates for more than 5 years now, and he would manage to dial to Hoff - and if he had to do rotate the damn ring manually.

With closed eyes clinging to the console Rodney tried to relax his muscles, preparing for the crash. He rested his head on his arm, wishing he could crawl into bed. Soft, warm sheets and Carson's naked skin against his. Sighing softly, he waited a few moments. When the shaking and vibrating abated, he blinked open his eyes and carefully let go of the console. He calculated how much time they had before a wave might crash back upon them, but decided against waiting.

Getting up he grabbed his laptop. "Okay, folks, you know your jobs," he shouted. "Radek's with me in the gate room, we need to get the gate back online. Kavanagh," he turned to the other scientist.

"We're working on getting the primary life support back to work stable. Main focus on the infirmary and the personal quarters, plus getting communication back, everything else is secondary," Kavanagh repeated curtly previous orders from McKay and gestured to the others, directing them to their consoles. "I'll notify you as soon as there's anything new."

Rodney nodded and turned to Radek. "Let's go fix that gate to get Carson back," he said determinedly and headed out of the lab.
