With a critical eye, Perna made sure she had followed all the instructions Carson had given her before he had left for the jumper bay.

( Everything seemed to be in place, and she could feel the whole infirmary vibrate with activity. )

"I don't know if they fed on you," Perna replied and placing her hand on his shoulder, gently pressed him back onto the bed. She could understand his concern, but he didn't look like he was up for more than lying down. "I'm sure once Carson is back, he will be able to tell you more."

The man tried to sit up once more, but Perna gently, but insistently pushed him back. She kept her hand on his shoulder until she felt him relax. "Good," she soothed. "You really need to calm down. I'm Perna, could you tell me your name, please?"

He nodded and told her, that his name was Dan Reynolds.

When his breathing evened out, she pulled back her hand. "Dr. Karolan will take some blood samples from you in a minute," she explained. "We need to run some tests." She was glad, Reynolds obviously was too tired to question the explanation, when Carson called her again.

Dan calmed when he realised his chest was as smooth and scar free as the last time he looked at it - he wasn't fed on. Thank God.

"Perna," he muttered. "I'm Dan, Dan Reynolds. I'm... I'm in the biology department."

He nodded when she told him another doctor would take blood tests, wearily thinking that was probably fairly normal.

"How long?" he asked, as she walked off. "How long were we in the dart?"

Perna turned to him again and gave him an apologetic smile. "I can't tell for sure, Carson mentioned about three weeks."

"Bloody hell," Dan answered, dropping his head back on the pillow. "That's so odd because ..." he waved his hand. "The last thing I remember is that guy with the knife and ..." he lifted his head again, looking down at his bloody side. "Guess I didn't dream that then?" he asked.

"I'm afraid not, Dan," Perna said. "I will have this looked at and taken care of."

She turned around and nodded at Karolan. She waited a moment until he came walking over to Dan Reynold's bed. "This is Karolan," she introduced the man to Dan. "He will take care of your injuries."
