Carson kept his speech clear so that his accent didn’t hinder his directions. “Perna, the people from the beaming are coming to you. I need you to look at the big strapping lad first. He has a chest wound. If I had to guess, I would say from a knife of some kind. Most of the others are not overtly injured.” He paused for a moment to make sure he wasn’t needed yet.
“Lass, please, have all the survivors checked for any cellular disruptions or distortions.” He worried if any of them had distortions hidden in their bodies like time bombs waiting to go off.
Perna found it hard to focus, as usual, when Carson called her "lass". By now she knew that it was an endearment he used for almost everyone around him. It hurt to realise that it didn't have the same weight to him as it had to her. But he seemed to be happy with this other man and she never had been interested in poaching in someone else's preserve.
"Of course," she replied. She was curious how the beaming went, but couldn't bring herself to ask. He seemed to be stressed and worried, and she could hear it in his voice. Probably it didn't go so well and she would find out later anyway. "I will instruct everyone."
Carson felt some relief about the infirmary being taken care of. He had watched Perna in her environment and had faith in her meticulousness. It was a few less stressors he would have to worry about. “Thank you, lass. I have faith in your abilities.”
Lily had decided to walk under her own power to the infirmary, given the severity of injury to some of the people who had also been in the dart. It took her rather longer to get there, but once she crossed the threshold, she was glad she'd done it--the room was a bustle of activity.
Her head hurt, her limbs felt weak--really, she knew she was on the verge of collapse, but nothing felt fundamentally or dangerously wrong, except for the fact that she didn't recognize some people, and that others... well. When a young woman with a gentle but commanding air asked her if she was all right, Lily took a deep breath and attempted a smile
