Summary: She learns more from him than just swordsmanship.

The style of swordsmanship Leo teaches her is conservative, but no less lethal for that. Unlike the style the drill sergeant taught her, his is patient, using the sword for defense before attack.

"Never fight unless you must," he says, his blade moving in a blur, the words a counterpoint to the clash of steel. "If you must, then sacrifice no more than absolutely necessary."

She takes the lesson farther, erecting defenses around her heart as well, until she becomes like her blade: cold and hard, with sharp edges. He compliments her skills, but the camaraderie they once had fades.
