State of the Ficwriting, 2008

Jan 08, 2009 15:37

I keep meaning to do a 2008 fandom retrospective, but I just skimmed the stuff I wrote for mini-nano and realized that what I really want to do is talk about writing, both what I did last year and my plans for this year.

A brief summary of last year )

writing, speculation, meme, plot bunnies

!!! Okay, that sounds super fun. I'll have to review Buffy and acquire some Merlin for reference, so it might take a little while, but I have a strong suspicion that this will exist eventually. Thanks for the prompt! :D

If Remus/Sirius is not inspiring please do not feel obliged! If you're really really looking for prompts I nudge Gojyo/Hakkai at you, as I am (predictably) shipping them like burning right now but! It looks like you have more than enough to keep you busy, and really, if you wanted to write the kind of Vivian/Jonathan you were mentioning for Yuletide, well -- *props chin on hands and smiles at you enticingly*

also, OMG The Obnoxious Jerks. Really, I should have expected that you had read that. I had such a huge soft spot for that book. Did you ever read Buffalo Brenda, by any chance?

And there should always be more MIT!fic.

No no no, I think I'd like to do some Remus/Sirius... hopefully inspiration will strike at some point. But don't worry, I feel no pressure -- it's just something to keep in the back of my head. If/when I start to absorb Saiyuki again, it might well produce some Gojyo/Hakkai, given that I ship them like crazy, too!

It's pretty much always better for me to have more options rather than less, it's just the way my brain works.

I should give A Tale of Time City a re-read, definitely. The thing about the Vivian/Jonathan is that I really really really want to read it; writing it would be differently satisfying, yes, but. I'll re-read it and see if it starts anything ticking. Part of the problem is that I don't have a plot in my head for that one, just a character interaction. But that could change!

Oh, I love love love The Obnoxious Jerks, I read it over and over when I was a teenager. And it does totally make sense that we've both read it, given that I'm pretty sure we were working with the exact same libraries ( ... )

at this point I should probably confess that I am honorably restraining the urge to shake you until you agree to sit down and catch up on Saiyuki right!this!minute! and shut up about it. It's too good to rush through it, if you're not in the mood.

The thing about the Vivian/Jonathan is that I really really really want to read it; oh, yes, that's hard. I totally understand. Especially the bit about only having a character interaction and no plot; it's not quite enough, no matter how it feels like about to be.

Oddly, I don't think I read Obnoxious Jerks through the library -- my sister got a copy from somewhere -- but Buffalo Brenda was a library book. I've no idea how it would hold up now, but I really loved it at the time -- it's another one of those "clique of oddballs shakes up the school" stories, and, yes, there's a real buffalo.

Now if only I could finish one of the ones I have started... ...argh. right. that.

*laugh* I'm pretty sure I'll start catching up on Saiyuki soon. I just have to dig out my paperbacks and figure out where I am and which ones I have to acquire still. So no worries! It'll happen. :)

Bryce should drag Chuck on a little road trip! Maybe I'll take them to the Monterey Bay Aquarium...

As an extra nudge, I'll offer beta assistance in advance!
