I wrote a program that does this, and use it for purposes much like this. But this one wasn't me.

Not a "security" reason so much as "garbage posts are often a test, to see who leaves garbage posts up and what response they get, as a way to see where they can leave spam such that the links will exist but the spammer won't get deleted."
