You know, I will admit that, as an immigrant in the United States, I do have a lot of problems with American culture. I still can't fathom some of the things people around me take for granted.
However, all things considered, I don't think I ever want to go back home. I was just idly wasting time on facebook when I noticed a good friend of mine joined a group called '
Sprecimo odrzavanje gay parade koja je zakazana za leto!'--'Let us stop the gay parade that is scheduled for this summer!'
Naturally, I was morbidly curious about why my friend would join such an idiotic sounding group so I read through the group description. Amongst other stupidities spewed by my retarded countrymen (including that gay people are just a mere step away from pedophiles and necrophiles), I was particularly aggravated by the latter half of the first big paragraph:
Sloppy translation:
Homosexuals would like to have children, but they cannot, God did not let them. So let them first parade themselves before God and THEN amongst people. In America and the EU it is all normal even if it is against God's laws. [...] If this parade is what will get us into Europe then we are better off where we are.
Frankly, the combination of religious banter and single-minded blind patriotic bullshit (yeah, like blind patriotism has ever done Serbia or the rest of the Balkans ANY good) has me half tempted to join that group and scream at them until I get banned. The worst part for me right now is that I know this isn't just a small minority of loonies--a lot of idiots in my country think that this kind of unthinking behavior is a fine example of patriotism which is, of course, something you should aspire to cling to until the very last breath.
I don't think I'll ever go back home to live, not even temporarily. To anyone in here that lives there (I know the cultural mindset is still not friendly towards atheism--got into a bit of an argument this past summer) or to anyone who knows someone who still lives there, my best wishes.
*lets off steam*
