I'm addressing this mainly to people who were formerly religious (actually believed in something) and then gave it up eventually.
Do you ever feel slightly uncomfortable surrounded by a large crowd of people from your former religion? For example, if you were at one time a Christian, would you feel really weirded out if you visited a Christian mega-church? How about a 'normal' church?
I didn't have a bad experience with Christianity, and don't harbor particular resentment towards my former church (except for feeling a bit rushed through confirmation, as if I was expected to choose to join the church and not being encouraged to actually make a decision) but if I'm amongst too many Christians then I tend to feel a bit like a poorly disguised gazelle amongst a pack of lions.
