Bod blinked at the young man. He looked warily at Blanche, then back again. Had he done something extra special to piss Blanche off? "Someone was... trying to sabotage the train?" he said slowly, taking the form from him. "Was this person using magic, psionics, hypnotic suggestion, technology, or simple knowledge and skill?" Sad as it was, there were people wandering around who might attempt to take down an entire train with their bare hands. "I suppose I could ask if they were attempting to sabotage a train with the clever use of animals, but I think that's more of a risk than the culprit would subject his pets to."
For a moment, it was hard to tell if the questions were serious or not-- true there was that vaguely flippant tone to them but it was a familiar sort of flippant.
Like every time he and Bruce went to Gordon to warm him about the next mad scheme meant to take down the city.
'Do not tell me this place is a mini-Gotham.'
"Um, technology. He had a freeze ray on him, and he was planting these by the tracks." Fishing into his pocket and took out a small metal something. He still wasn't sure what it was supposed to do. "Tall, blonde, wore a white lab coat, didn't get his name." At least, a real name. "I know I sound nuts man, but I swear I'm telling the truth."
He resisted the urge to add, 'Trust me, I know evil genius when I see it.' to the end of that.
"It doesn't sound nuts," Bod said. "At least, no more nuts than anything else that happens around here." Going through a mental checklist, he said, "...Freeze ray. Freeze ray. The lab coat says mad scientist, or evil geni--" he stopped. "I know who that is," he said. "It's-- it's that guy that Jane Davenport interned with. Dr H, or whatever." Going to the computer, he started typing. Even with the amount of time he'd spent around a computer in the past year, he still typed slowly, and a little clumsily. At least he didn't have to hunt for the letters anymore. "Dr. H-- orrible?" he said, wrinkling his nose. "Yeah, that's about right." A few more keystrokes, and then he said, "...according to the reports here, we... shouldn't have to worry, because his plans never seem to work properly. Or else someone thwarts them." He looked up at Tim. "And... you telling me about this would be considered thwarting. Right."
And then: "You have people who intern with evil geniuses here?"
What was this place, some sort of super villain training camp in disguise? All things considered the relative nonchalance with which file clerk Owens was handling all of this was...unnerving and familiar in a way nothing outside of Gotham had a right to be. Besides, he wasn't just going to walk out, knowing that the police obviously had a file on the guy.
"So he's been arrested before, I mean, you've caught him previously?" Tim had a sinking feeling he knew the answer to that question, but he had to ask.
