"No, I don't want to, stay away!" Pon-chan bolted down the street--a raccoon to most eyes, but any child would not have seen a raccoon. Nokoru would not have seen a raccoon.

Instead, he saw a smudge-faced girl with long, tightly-ringed blond hair held up in two pig-tails in a desperate run. The lace frill of an elegant (if dirty) black and white dress fluttered against her legs as her ran, dodging through the late afternoon crowd with surprising grace.

At her heels was a massively tall man dressed in a spring colored men's qi-pao. In one hand he held an unplugged hair dyer and in the other a brush. The two were barreling down the street at an incredible pace, barely paying attention to people who fell or were pushed aside in the pursuit.

"Look ooouuuttt!" Pon-chan had just wiggled her way out of a dense part of the crowd, right in front of a pretty blond boy. She was trapped.

Ah-ha. There!

The little blonde girl (girl?) skidded to a stop in front of him. Past her, past the crowd, Nokoru caught a glimpse of the man in pursuit. Quick as a wink, he knelt in front of the girl and caught up one of her smudged little hands in his. "Never fear, princess. I'll protect you." One blue eye closed in a conspiratorial wink, then he rose and placed himself half in front of her, waiting calmly for the tall, elegant (if flustered) man to catch up.

"I'm afraid, my dear Count," he informed the man with a confident air that didn't match his age, "that I can't allow you to take this young lady against her will."

Pon-chan blushed and nodded, glad that this boy would not turn her over to D for her Spring bath-- she hated baths!

"Th-thank you," she stammered, cowering behind him, one hand rest on a slender shoulder.

D approached moments later, his eyes cold with frustration, compounded by the fact that of all things, Pon-chan seemed to have found herself a knight errant.

"My dear child, surely a boy of such refinement can know a girl in need of a bath when you see one." D bent down, not condescendingly, only to be nearer Nokoru's height. He had to keep in mind that to him, Pon-chan was just another normal human girl. Chris had believed the same thing, after all.

"And I'm afraid that she's only playing the damsel in distress, I assure you she can stand up for herself when she wants."

"Which I AM!," The raccoon-in-girl's clothing shouted. "I don't see why every Spring you have to clean everything it the store, including me!" She tightened the hand on Noroku's should for effect and said the boy. "Please don't let him put that horrible ( ... )

"That's impolite, Count," Nokoru said sternly, angling his closed fan at the man to emphasize the point. "To make personal remarks about a lady's hygiene. A gentleman like yourself should forebear. I'm sure this charming girl will take a bath when she feels it's time."

He didn't move, though he did give Pon-chan a reassuring smile over his shoulder. Then he returned his steady gaze to D. "In the meantime, whatever you say, I can clearly see that her unhappiness at the prospect is real."
