It was Richie, carrying a large tray with twenty pink-frosted chocolate cupcakes he'd made himself. Since he admittedly had never spent much time learning to cook, the frosting was messy and the cupcakes were somewhat uneven. Still, Richie had made an extra one to taste himself, and everything tasted fine.
"Hi, Lulu!" Richie said with a big grin, holding out his tray so she could see it. "Happy birthday!"
Lulu beamed upon Richie's entrance. She was all set to give him an immediate hug when there was a tray in the way. An adorable tray of Richie-made cupcakes. That were pink. "Oh! Richie these are wonderful! And thank you!" She took the tray, which Moira took off her hands and went to put on the table. Now Richie was free to hug!!
So Lulu gave him a tight hug. "Thank you for coming!"
Richie smiled. "Well, I'd wait to compliment them until after you taste them." But of course he was pleased that she liked them already. "I've never made cupcakes before, but I thought you might like them. And it would be nice if someone baked for you for a change."
Richie gave Lulu a tight hug back. "You're welcome! I wouldn't miss your birthday for anything."
"Oh, it doesn't matter, Richie! They're awesome just because you made them. Of course I like them." She grinned widely, taking Richie by the arm after he hugged her back. "Well thank you. I'm glad you're here."
Castiel walked through the door, a little stiff as always. He carried a box in his hands. It was open at the top.
Inside was a cake. It was a little lopsided and the chocolate icing was runny. 'Happy Birthday Lulu' was written in neat, pink letters over the top. It was obvious the angel had made the cake himself and it was just as obvious he had never made one before.
"I saw it in a comic," he said in greeting. "Is it right?"
When she saw Castiel there, Lulu grinned widely. Not everyone got a bonafide (or at least claimed) angel to come to their twentieth birthday party. And he made a cake! Oh, wasn't that completely perfect! She took the cake and handed it off to Moira who shook her head slightly, putting it on the table, noting Castiel's very interesting aura.
"Oh! It's perfect, Castiel. Thank you so much!" The blonde gave the angel a hug.
Castiel stood stiffly, allowing Lulu to touch him but not responding in any way. He did not even know where to begin doing that.
"There is something else," he said, pulling a small silver-wrapped box from his pocket. "I believe it is the custom." He held out the box and said, "For your protection."
((OOC: The box contains a silver cross on a chain. Yes, he blessed it^^.))
"Angels don't hug, hm?" Lulu kept a smile on her face. It was fine, she was a hugger, but not everyone was. Castiel pulled out a box and Lulu's eyes widened. "Oh! You didn't really need to, but thank you." It was completely unnecessary and yet Lulu loved it. Opening it up, she saw it was a very pretty cross. She wasn't religious, but Castiel was an angel, so it made sense. Lulu smiled, and put the necklace around her neck. "My protection?"
((ooc: CASTIEL IS SO ADORABLE I JUST WANT TO HUG HIM EVEN THOUGH HE WILL STAND THERE AWKWARDLY))
Clarice was not in the mood for a party. She'd been fiercely avoiding people for the last week, ever since the ball, pleading off work and the gymnastics practices. She was more mute than usual in front of Moira and Lulu, avoiding even them when she could manage it.
But it was Lulu's birthday. Lulu, who was always so good to her and who had made a fuss over Clarice's own birthday just a little while back. The mutant girl could not skip out on this party.
She'd spent most of the day helping Moira prepare for it, trying to feign an enthusiasm she didn't feel, until she could excuse herself to get changed. She'd already given Lulu her gift this morning: a pretty copper-plated trivet to keep hot pots and dishes off the countertops and table. Better yet, part of the proceeds went to charity. Clarice thought Lulu would appreciate that part too.
Now she just had to keep an eye on things and, well, socialize. Which she did by hiding out near the foot of the stairs.
Lulu had excused herself from her other guests when Clarice came downstairs. She looked adorable, but more troubled than usual. It wasn't quite the Clarice-nervousness about parties that she'd gotten used to. This was something else.
Going up to the purple girl, Lulu gave her a great big hug. "Thank you for everything, Clarice."
Clarice hugged Lulu back, willingly letting her unhappiness be pushed to the back of her mind. At least she still had Lulu and Moira as friends. She hadn't given them a reason to be afraid of her - not yet anyway.
"I didn't - I really didn't do anything," she demurred, ducking her head in a habitual gesture. "It was all Moira, I just helped a little. Happy birthday..."
Lulu left an arm around Clarice's shoulder. "Thank you anyway. And for the present. And just for being here. I know parties aren't really your thing." Lulu smiled widely, and then bit her lip, concentrating. "Clarice? Is...there anything the matter?"

The thing about being estranged from your family was that when you went on leave, you could go wherever the hell you pleased as soon as they released you after all the medical examinations and debriefings and paperwork. And it pleased John Sheppard to go to the place he'd made his home for more than a year.
The very unusual place he'd made his home.
It wasn't the place that had made it home, it was the people. And John had gotten Walter to do a little research, and he'd found out that at least one of these people, a special one, still lived there. With the dates coinciding so nicely, well, it only made sense.
So he'd packed his duffel, and sauntered by to knock on her door, and of course, she was having a party.

Lulu left her guests, the ones that had remained, to go answer the door. Moira had done her hostess duty well, but the witch was getting more exhausted by the minute. So when the knock happened, it only made sense that Lulu would greet whoever her late arrival was.
When she opened the door and saw John there, Lulu had all but shrieked. (In fact, to everyone else it might well have appeared to be a shriek, but to Lulu it was just an excited yelp, albeit a high pitched one.) "JOHN!" she exclaimed excitedly, not hesitating another moment to give him a hug.

It was really nice, to be hugged by Lulu again. Sure, there was hugging in Atlantis, but it was usually post-narrow-escape hugging, which just wasn't the same. When they pulled away he stood there grinning at her, looking at this kid he hadn't seen in a few years, who wasn't as much of a kid anymore.
"Hey Lulu," he drawled as he pulled off his aviators. "You grew up."

Lulu couldn't stop grinning. John was here! It was completely amazing. She had changed a bit in the time he was gone, but at heart, she was still the same girl who was happy to see her old friend. Even if she had gotten a tiny bit taller and several years older. "Did I?" she smiled, pulling her friend into the house. "I'm twenty whole years now. Two decades. Can you believe it? Also, you look exactly the same." Lulu beamed. Just having John here was birthday present enough. Forget about the party.
