It was Richie, carrying a large tray with twenty pink-frosted chocolate cupcakes he'd made himself. Since he admittedly had never spent much time learning to cook, the frosting was messy and the cupcakes were somewhat uneven. Still, Richie had made an extra one to taste himself, and everything tasted fine.
"Hi, Lulu!" Richie said with a big grin, holding out his tray so she could see it. "Happy birthday!"
Lulu beamed upon Richie's entrance. She was all set to give him an immediate hug when there was a tray in the way. An adorable tray of Richie-made cupcakes. That were pink. "Oh! Richie these are wonderful! And thank you!" She took the tray, which Moira took off her hands and went to put on the table. Now Richie was free to hug!!
So Lulu gave him a tight hug. "Thank you for coming!"
Richie smiled. "Well, I'd wait to compliment them until after you taste them." But of course he was pleased that she liked them already. "I've never made cupcakes before, but I thought you might like them. And it would be nice if someone baked for you for a change."
Richie gave Lulu a tight hug back. "You're welcome! I wouldn't miss your birthday for anything."
"Oh, it doesn't matter, Richie! They're awesome just because you made them. Of course I like them." She grinned widely, taking Richie by the arm after he hugged her back. "Well thank you. I'm glad you're here."
"Thank you!" Richie said, smiling. "I hope they're good though. I ate one just to make sure they weren't awful. Of course, I'll eat anything." He was babbling now and he needed to stop. He gave Lulu a happy smile when she took his arm. "I'm glad I'm here too. You look beautiful."
"You're welcome. I'm sure they are. You made them, and it's really the thought that counts." She grinned back at Richie's happy smile. "It's nice to see you happy again." Lulu entirely avoided the beautiful comment, but her cheeks seemed a very slight bit redder. Not too noticeable.
"Well, thanks!" Richie said with a grin. He nodded at Lulu. "It's nice to see you happy again too." She seemed a lot better than the last time he'd seen her--but then, he suspected that even terrible, terrible things couldn't keep Lulu down for long. That was one of the things that was so great about her. "So, did you do anything special for your birthday? I mean, other than your party."
"You're welcome." She shrugged. Lulu was good at a few things. One of them was looking on the bright side. Another was selective memory. So if she didn't think about the nightmare during the day, during fun, she wouldn't be depressed about it. (At night was an entirely different story.) Her current bright side was Richie being here. "Special? No, not really."
Richie grinned. "If we were back in Milwaukee, I'd offer to take you to a drive-in. Gee, Lulu, I wish we could take a vacation in my time so you could meet everybody...my family and friends." They would love her; he knew it.
"Hm. Maybe sometime we could." Lulu wasn't sure how precisely, but it was Aternaville. Very little was impossible here. "You know! We could always just stay in one night and watch a movie. I've got a pretty ridiculously large collection."
"I don't know. Depends what kind you're in the mood for. Modern or classic, or something in between. What genre. If you have actors that you particularly like their work. A topic you want to see." Lulu grinned. Films were something she liked. Films and baking. If you could make a career out of that, you'd have Lulu Spencer perfectly happy.
Richie spread his hands wide, smiling. "Educate me, Lulu. I have my favorites, but I've seen my favorites. So I guess I'm in the mood for something modern. And since I wouldn't know anything about that, I'll need a lot of help finding the good stuff."
"Modern. Modern as in 21st century or just after the 50s?" Modern was a very subjective term in Aternaville. "We could look through my collection or just wander around the video store till we find something."
"Good point," Richie said, pondering the question. "Um, I guess either. Anything that I haven't seen yet. And...okay, this is embarrassing, but I have to admit, I have been sticking to watching stuff from before I came here. Movies, I mean. I've seen TV, though sometimes it doesn't make any sense." Particularly "professional wrestling." Richie knew of Gorgeous George and similar guys from his time, when wrestling actually resembled wrestling, but long-haired scary-looking men hitting each other with chairs and elbows and things? What sort of television was that?
"That's fine. We can start with my collection then, and just pick which ones you like. I promise they're not all girly movies." Though some admittedly are. "Which tv doesn't make sense?" There was a wide variety of options there.
"Hi, Lulu!" Richie said with a big grin, holding out his tray so she could see it. "Happy birthday!"

Richie beamed. "I'd love that! What would you like to see? Or what would you like me to see? I've still got a lot of catching up to do, movie-wise."
