Chuck looked down at the thin, dark haired girl, wondering why she looked so familiar.

"It's Alan Moore," he explained, showing her his copy of 'Watchmen'. "He's like- he never does signings. The store just announced it yesterday- I think he just decided to come up here on a whim," Chuck said, shaking his head.

Still thinking he knew the girl (but not flashing or having any other sign of recognition) Chuck looked at her again.

"Do I know you from somewhere?"

"Met when you were young. I was younger." She'd had braids, then, and bested Chuck at some silly game. Taking the copy of Watchmen, River quirked her head at it and frowned.

"Who watches the watchmen?" Murmured even though she hadn't so much as cracked the cover. "All along the walls. Are they always so vigilant?"

'When you were young??

Chuck looked at the girl again- she certainly didn't resemble anyone he remembered from his childhood, and it would certainly be strange to be running into anyone from California here...

Then, he remembered. The craziness a few months ago. And he certainly remembered the dark-haired girl, who had currently lifted his book right out of his hands.

"Hey! Yeah! I remember you!" Chuck smiled. "From the arcade! And we went to get ice cream with that other boy-" it had been a rather fun day, even if it had been more than a little strange.

"I'm sorry, I don't remember your name, though. I'm Chuck."

"You recall! River." She returned his cheerful smile, only fading a little when a rather rude fan shoved her. But her composure returned a moment later, and she handed back his book, eyes still fixed on his face and quizzically searching. "I uh -- there's something not..."

Though she couldn't pinpoint exactly what was incorrect about Chuck, she knew that something wasn't as it should be. Something was in him that wasn't supposed to be there, and he didn't want it. Impulsively, she stretched her fingers upward to touch his cheek. "Should you be seeing your famous man now?"
