There were several things that River loved most about Aternaville. At the top of that list was The Doctor. Further down (but certainly not near the bottom) was meeting new people. Coincidentally, these chance meetings went hand in hand with Ianto's euphoric caffeinated beverages.

The boy she'd spoken with in the forums was entertaining; she could tell meeting him was going to be simple. Fun, even. Jot that to the list, by the way; River loved fun.

Quickly, she'd wrapped herself in heaviness, warm scarf, gloves, hat -- none of which matched, of course -- and headed out to meet him. Nevermind how she knew where he lived; some things, River simply knew and it wasn't for others to discern just how.

Seeing the flash of blue in front of the building, River approached the bundled figure, waving a gloved hand as she got close.

"It's you!" Her smile turned gleeful over the top of the striped scarf. "Boy with numbers in his name."

Matt blinked, finding himself smiling right away. He wouldn't have been able to explain why, but he could tell this had been a good decision. Maybe to some it'd be weird to just randomly and easily agree to meet up with people from over the internet, but that had been part of his life for at least the past decade, and he had experienced -- well, not all good times, but mostly.

"It's me," he agreed. "I'm Matt." Matt rested his cane against his leg and stuck out his left hand -- since it was his left knee that was busted, his left hand was commonly preoccupied with holding the black plastic handle of the cane.

River blinked at the hand, but took it anyway. Left was left and right was right. She could make comprehensible sense of these sorts of things.

"Matt! Fewer numbers. It's preferable." Glancing towards the cane, she smiled weakly. "But your hand should be there instead."

Matt's smile turned a little crooked as he tried to understand the girl's shifting expressions and strange way of speaking, but she seemed honestly nice enough, so, uh. Matt shrugged and took his hand back, picking up the cane again. "I guess. I don't really need it," he explained. At least, Matt thought, if he said that often enough, it might end up being true.

She hadn't offered her name, and Matt wasn't really sure of a good way to prompt her. He was so ridiculously awkward. Jeez. He didn't bother asking her how she knew where he lived, guessing it was some sort of mapquest plus isp tracking system. Maybe the forums even had a map built into them, although he thought he would've seen something like that already.

"So, uh. Where to?"

One of the coffee shop's usual customers came through the door. Of course, Jack could get all the coffee he wanted for free at home, but it never hurt to support your local coffee shop. When he stepped inside, he smiled when he saw Ianto on one side of the counter and River on the other. The guy with her, Jack didn't recognize. Oh, he was getting a good look over and not for the usual reasons.

Think of Jack as another of River's big brothers.

He kept his smile friendly when he stepped up to the counter. "What does a man have to do to get some service around here?"

Still holding his coffee cup protectively in one hand, Matt stepped to the side as a newcomer walked up to the counter. He smiled one of those smiles you gave people you passed on the street whenever you happened to meet their eye -- just a "Hey, I'm not going to beat you up or anything, so please return the favor" awkward expressions that almost looked pained.

It was always a moment of pleasure for Ianto when someone drank his coffee for the first time. "And thus another link is forged in my benevolent coffee empire," he quipped, accent making the words lilt on his tongue. "River, can I get you anything while Matt has his coffee orgasm?"

And then the Captain walked in. Ianto's smile went a little wider at that and he shrugged, playing at nonchalance. "Oh, I don't know. Depends on the type of service. What can I get you, strange man?"

Matt thought about protesting the phrase "coffee orgasm," but decided it wasn't worth it. Instead he just took another pleased drink. Although he did notice the implication in Ianto's question for the new guy...
