Delirium thought it was very cute how people marked the year. And how people had different ends and beginnings of the year to mark. She, after all, had seen many years. They run together after a while. Like a pack of wolves, all for one and one for all.

She even dressed up like everyone else would be doing! And was carrying around Momo with her. She loved Momo. He was very nice and liked the same kind of tea that she did. Wandering in, the Rainbow Girl looked around like a child would in a wonderland. It was pretty!

Lulu walked over to the new arrival. Someone she hadn't met before wearing an interesting blue and yellow dress.

"Hello! Happy New Year!" she grinned to the girl.

"Pretty in Pink!" Del smiled brightly, admiring the other girl's dress. "Is Duckie around?" She looked curiously about, then brought mismatched eyes back to the blonde. "Happy Year! But not knew, silly. Haven't known it yet!" She giggled.

"Delirium is me." Said with a bob of her head, sunset coloured hair (reds and oranges and pinks tinged with a hint of blue) seeming like it moved on its own volition. "Momo is him." Introduced her strange-looking bunny. "You?"

Lulu smiled. "Who's Duckie?" she asked the girl who vaguely reminded her of River.

"Nice to meet you, Delirium, and Momo. I'm Lulu." She looked at the girl, still smiling. Well isn't that interesting. Rainbow.

Jayne had never, ever, ever had any intention of coming to this fool party. Kaylee'd been all a-flutter about it, and that was fine for her, but fancy shindigs weren't Jayne's thing. Give him an honest bar-brawl any day ( ... )

They would certainly be a sight! Jayne, because of his clothes, and Tex, because she was in jeans, a dress shirt, and one of Ianto's fancy blazers. It was warm, after all. One arm was linked through Jayne's, and she had a beer in the other hand. She had a little bit too much to drink, but wasn't nearly drunk yet. She'd considered going home to change.. but the armor would have been cumbersome. "What's a party without the guests of honor?" Asked aside to Jayne.

A glance around the place, from her vantage point, still in the foyer (that was up a few stairs), and along with her extra height, she could see most of the people in the room. Ianto Jones. His boy-toy. There was that cute guy who worked on his ship, and his brother. And two red-heads. A lady with a baby-- what sort of idiot would bring a baby to this sort of thing? She should steal it and frame a dingo.

"Pretty dull, I'd say," Jayne responded, his own eyes scanning the room. He gave a snort. "An' it does look pretty dull. Laotianye, folks got nothin' better to do than get gussied up and stand around lookin' useless?" Though he knew Kaylee liked that sort of thing, he couldn't fathom it, his own self. And speaking of Kaylee, he spotted her, across the room with that 经常没用的 boyfriend of hers. Dancing. Christ.

Tex nudged her shoulder into Jayne's with a little smirk, leaning so that she could see where he was looking-- he was only just a bit taller than her, after all. And when she noticed who he was looking at, she lifted her eyebrows. "Is that Dr. Horrible? Well look at that. He got himself a pretty little girlfriend. How sweet." She lifted her bottle to set it on a passing waiter's tray. "Come on, I need another drink. And they've got all sorts of fancy things."

Owen and Tosh arrived as the party was well underway. She'd taken a long time, apologizing and rushing and altogether making a mess of herself, with Owen half-heartedly reassuring her that they didn't have to go to the ball -- they could just have their own little private party here.

But Tosh had to get out every now and then, and Owen was more than happy to take her. (She looked so beautiful in that dress.)

They arrived at city hall, handing their coats off to some insignificant serving person before entering the grand ballroom. Even Owen had to look a little impressed. "...Not bad, not bad.."

"Oi! Tosh! Owen!"

Not the most suave of greetings, but that was alright. By then Ianto had drank a couple of glasses of champagne and was feeling no pain. But not enough to be sloppy about anything. That would just be wrong.

Ianto came over, looking dapper and flushed, smiling away. He took Tosh's hand and bowed over it before shooting Owen a wink. "You both look great."

It was one thing to wear her new dress at home for Owen, but it was quite another to get ready for a ball.

And things like hair and makeup took a while!

Regardless, Tosh was smiling as they entered, and grinned as she heard Ianto's voice.

"You are looking quite nice yourself," she laughed, delighted to be out and celebrating with her friends. "Where's Jack?"

"Thank you, Mister Jones." Owen lifted his chin a little, tugging earnestly on the lapels of his blazer as he straightened to his full height -- which was still a few inches shorter than Ianto. Irritating.

"Don't we just." He hooked an arm about Tosh's waist. She really did look gorgeous in that dress. Leaning in, Owen kissed the side of her head, murmuring a a little, "Purple is definitely your color."

It was almost ten, and Lily, Lee, Zak and Moira had left the house about an hour ago, all dressed up and quite pretty (and handsome), ready for the ball. Remus had sat out the Yule ball three years in a row.. until the first time Sirius had managed to drag him out, in fourth year. And since then, he'd gone every year. And this felt sort of like those first few years... the werewolf wanted to go, but just.. wasn't. Maybe because he had nothing to wear (though he did), maybe because he had no one to go with (though he did), and maybe because he had no interest in going (though he did). .. So why was he sitting in his and Sirius' room, staring at the suit hanging on the closet door again?

It was ten minutes later that Remus came down the stairs, smoothing a hand out over the front of his suit. The full moon was a week out and all of his cuts and bruises had healed, and the werewolf actually looked quite presentable. It wasn't hard to find Sirius, he was stretched out on the couch, watching the television, so Remus moved to stand ( ... )

There wasn't really anything interesting on the telly, and yet Sirius found himself staring at the screen anyway, unwilling to move or even blink much. What kind of power was it that this bloody Muggle device had over him, anyway?

Then, all of a sudden, there was a figure blocking his view of the screen, and the spell was broken. But now, in its place, a new, even stronger spell had been cast. Sirius felt his jaw fall open as his eyes looked his boyfriend up and down, several times. "Bloody hell, Moony," he breathed, sitting up straight. "You look... incredible."

"Good." He smiled just some. "Then get dressed in something nice, take me out to that ball, and show me off." That last part was a joke of course, because when they went out together, it certainly wasn't Sirius who showed Remus off.. it was the other way around. If the two were in a room together, no one even took a second look at the werewolf, they were all too enthralled with the beautiful man at his side. It had been that way when they were younger.. and it would surely be that way now, with Sirius all grown up. He was stunning. Moony had always paled in comparison to his darker counterpart.

The ball? Oh, right! The New Years ball. Sirius remembered now, Lily chattering about it, but he hadn't thought too much on the matter. Remus had never been one for big, fancy gatherings like that. It had taken him four bloody years to drag him to the Yule Ball, after all. So he hadn't expected to attend.

But now, it seemed Moony was eager to go. And gods, did he really think Sirius could deny him anything while he looked like that? He couldn't help but to get up off the couch and wrap his arms around Remus's waist. "Really? Not that it doesn't sound like a fantastic idea, but might I ask what brought this on?"

Billy had suited up.

All right, he wasn't wearing a tie. But the subtly pinstriped grey suit and crisp white shirt only played up his new, uncharacteristic air of confidence. He stood up straight, 6'1" plus shoes; he looked people in the eye. He asked Kaylee to the New Years dance.

And now he escorted her through the doors into the foyer, pausing to help her off with her coat and leave it and his at the coat check. Then he offered his arm and a smile with no hint of shyness about it, and escorted her into the ballroom. And let out a low whistle.

"This is beautiful," he remarked, gazing around the room before looking back at Kaylee with warm, steady blue eyes. "Not as beautiful as you, though."

The past few days had seemed like a dream, really. Billy had actually managed to ask her to the ball, and if that weren't enough, a beautiful dress had appeared on her doorstep yesterday.

She was tempted to believe that her wish had come true- what other explanation was there?

Anyway, Kaylee was absolutely thrilled to be at the ball. She blushed a little at Billy's compliment, also taking in the beautiful surroundings.

"This is only the second time I've gotten to come to something like this," Kaylee said, a bit of awe in her voice. "Hope this one has more dancing and less fighting!"

"Dancing can be arranged," Billy assured her with a grin, as he escorted her down the steps into the ballroom. "Would you like a drink first? Or straight to the dance floor?" Had he ever danced before? Besides in his imagination. He had a few silly moves he'd do in the privacy of his lab - who didn't? - but that was totally different. Yet he felt no hesitation at all about the prospect of dancing with Kaylee.

He wondered why, and could only think that it was because it was her that he was inspired with such confidence. He scarcely remembered that just a couple of days ago, he'd been paralyzed with indecision about her.

Billy seemed so different tonight- not that Kaylee was complaining, no no no. If anything, she was delighted that he finally seemed to have caught on to the fact that she liked him, and that she wasn't having to do all the hinting anymore.

"Um, we can get a drink," she smiled, really just happy to be there, her arm looped through Billy's. "I just love this," she beamed, feeling every bit the princess as they made their way down the stairs.
