Remus Lupin was used to feeling pain. When you had been a werewolf since three years old, it became a normal thing, a monthly ritual that helped turn the child into a man by the age of ten. He hadn't even had his first drop of Wolf's Bane until he was twelve, and even then it hadn't been perfect. Like the night before last. Severus' potion had made him stick to his stomach and it hadn't helped with the transformation.. he'd cut and bit himself up all night, and had even gone so far as to attack Padfoot, who was only there to help him. It hadn't been a good night, and that much was said simply from the large rectangle of gauze that was taped to his face, covering from below the corner of his right eye, down over his jaw line, and an inch onto his neck. Also, both of his hands were bandaged, and he was wearing mittens over them, thanks to the cold. Beneath his jacket, he had plenty of other cuts, scrapes, and bruises that would fade with time. But he'd woken up in a warm bed to find Sirius next to him, and he had smiled. However, after ten minutes or so of lying next to the older man, he had climbed from the bed and quietly (carefully) pulled on his clothing, and had made his way out onto the streets of this little town in Canada, to get a good look at it. He looked tired, and he looked ill, and like he'd been attacked by a wild animal.. but the birds were beginning to sing as the sun rose, and Remus was smiling, as much as the twin slices on his face would allow him. He'd have to talk to Severus today, and let him know that the potion hadn't worked.. maybe next time. He had, after all, warned him that it was an experiment..
