Battle scars, inside and out
I was discharged this morning with strict instructions that I should take it easy for the next couple of days.
Right. Take it easy. My club is a mess, my face is a mess, and they are telling me to take it easy.
I know Mother would have rather had me go back to the Manor rather than my flat, but I refused her. I'm sure it hurt her, but I don't want to deal with her pity right now.
I stand in the bathroom, surveying the damage to my face. They did all they could do, but there is still a lot more cuts and bruises than I had hoped. One thing that the Malfoys have always prided themselves on having is perfect bodies, but especially faces. What in the world am I going to do?
Out of the corner of my eye, I catch the sight of movement in the mirror. Pansy's standing in the doorway, silent, just looking at me.
I stand there looking in the mirror for a moment longer before turning to her. "At least with my leg no one could see it." I don't know what made me say that, but that was the first thing that really came to my mind.
"They're not...horrible," she remarks.
"But I'm not the way I am before," I say simply, turning back towards the mirror. I wonder what she will think of me now.
"They'll heal and look better than they do now."
"But what if they don't? Are you going to still love me if I have scars on my face?" I turn and face her, looking into her eyes.
"They will," she assures me, taking a step closer before gingerly touching one. "At least a bit."
I notice she didn't answer both of the questions. How am I going to deal with knowing that my fiancee might break our engagement because my face isn't perfect? What made me do what I did? And am I going to regret it now? I decide to change the subject, because knowing what she might do if my face is scarred - I don't want to think about it.
"I wonder if it's even worth keeping the club open now. People are going to know what happened, they are going to know that I own it, and I can't see anyone coming to it knowing that I am the owner. What's to stop her from attacking again?"
