Chase finds a simple solace in the Ghaansgrad. The battered book is comforting to her, the lilac-coloured cover, the battered pages, and if she concentrates she can smell Ondria, the winged Prise who gave it to her. Prise smell nice, she thinks, and that simple scent, those familiar words, they calm her down.

She's walking away from the Passenger's Quarters with the book in hand, reading as she takes steps. She's committed the entire scripture to memory but the words are as comforting as the weight of it in an unfamiliar body.

And then she stops.

She doesn't move, not at first, but her gaze has shifted to the casual-but-not-casual stance of the Beef Jerky trader, and then slowly turns her head to follow, gaze locked onto the older male. And, after a few moments of staring, speaks:

"You're planning something."

Dean follows the voice, eyes dropping down a meter to find its source. There's a flash of concern across them again, habit because seeing a little girl walking around without her parents, existing or not, makes him feel uncomfortable. No little kid should be without his or her parents, something that he had to deal with when he was growing up.

The attitude, however, distracts him from that train of thought and, though he knows he probably shouldn't, he finds her boldness amusing. His lips quirk into a semi-grin, eyebrows lifting towards his hairline a moment later because he really is trying his best to look like he isn't about to go play explorer in places he probably shouldn't be.

"Oh yeah? What makes you so sure?"

Chase's face is a cross between duuuh and oh, you're trying to be serious right now, though to be fair it's normally her default look. Still, staring at the freckled man, she closes the book and carefully tucks it underneath her arm, holding on to it like it's something precious to her--which, well, it is.

"It's written all over you," She indicates with a raise of her eyebrow, and she can't help it when a tiny, tiny smile crosses her features. He kind of looks like her twin brother when he'd get caught doing something wrong.

"It's..pretty obvious." A beat, and then: "What are you planning, exactly?"

"Oh, really?" Dean's resisting the urge to drop down to her level, determined not to get drawn into a conversation with a kid about how it looks like he's the one up to something. As far as he remembers, that's not the way things are done.

"Even if I was plannin' somethin', kid, I wouldn't tell you. Hell, isn't it past your bedtime?"

Jim didn't plan on being late, but he also couldn't help getting sidetracked on his way to the meet up location he'd designated for himself and the man he'd picked out to search out this ship with. However, he did have a tendency to stick his nose into absolutely everything and when he wasn't explaining things or pointing people in the right direction, he was offering a few soothings words to the handful who had no fucking idea how to handle this new situation.

He'd met a few people who thought the whole thing was a dream. If only they were so lucky.

Nevertheless, he finally jogs around the corner, leaving in his wake hissing doors and slowing as he spots his makeshift companion, and announces his presence with a jerk of his chin and: "Hey."

"Hey," Dean returns and if his voice is an octave lower than usual, that probably has a lot to do with the fact that he's sizing the other man up. It would be dumb of him not to have a pretty good idea of what he's up against if he's planning on heading off into the bowels of the ship with him.

He pushes up and off of the wall and finally nods his greeting too, assessment of his expedition partner bringing him to the conclusion that he's armed if anything goes awry. Until then he's going to take a quick look over the other man's shoulder, constantly checking who's watching and who he should be watching. Old habits die hard.

"I'm Dean, your not-so-friendly, not-really-a-tour-guide," he introduces himself and doesn't intend on giving away anything more about himself than that. He still doesn't know who he can trust, so he's not going to be trusting anyone.

Jim gets it.

Probably because he was this, back in Iowa. But, for once, he isn't looking to ruffle any feathers. He's here to check the ship out with someone who can hold their own and can handle their fear, and despite this guy's coarse demeanor, he's exactly what Jim was looking for. Of course, he'd have asked Spock to go with him, but the Vulcan had been busy doing sciencey Spock things since he came out of meditation, and the young captain couldn't complain. He could pick apart the system and Jim would take a look around and they'd rendezvous later.

"I'm Kirk," He answers, and doesn't wait for response before clapping his hands together and tilting his head as if the small incline could encompass the entirety of the ship theirs for exploration. "Shall we?"

"As far as I figured, we're going to check the ship out, dude. LARPing's not really my thing," Dean returns easily and can't help but chuckle at what he assumes is just a coincidence. Teasing the man about his name, especially considering they're on a spaceship, sounds like a Funny Thing To Do. Not least because, since he's got here, Dean's been on edge.

The tension in the way he holds his body is clear enough to people who are able to read that kind of thing. There's also a headache set deep in his skull and hunger that feels like it's starting to eat his stomach from the inside out. But those are just minor details. He wants those answers more than anything, right now.

Too late to throw in? handsofasoldier December 12 2011, 00:15:10 UTC
John was also set to meet someone outside of the passenger quarters, although it was, perhaps luckily, not the same man that Dean was due to meet. The older man passes through the doorway, seemingly introverted with thought and pausing to check his communicator every once in a while. Occasionally he glances up and scans his surroundings before typing into the device or checking the time. He's been speaking to people all morning and seeing patients left and right. Now he's getting ready to meet a man who can tell him more about the nuances of medical technology in space - it's shaping up to be a busy day ( ... )

Nevah! Sorry about the late tag back! * 3 * iamwinchester December 14 2011, 20:48:03 UTC
Not completely used to being in such close quarters with so many people, Dean is momentarily caught off-guard and annoyed by that as the stranger's voice breaks in on his act. He glances up and catches the other man staring down at the device he's paying particular attention to before opening his mouth and searching for something awesome to use as a comeback. Unfortunately, it's just not there, especially when he gets the feeling he's not about to be shafted or shipped off to-- well, whoever the hell's in charge around here.

"Nothin' I can't suture up myself," he finally settles on and makes no big deal about the fact he's sewn himself back together more than once. There's a fairly large dose of mistrust as he continues, and though it's nothing personal, he doesn't like to give the game away so early on. Not with someone he doesn't know.

"What kinda person wants to know the gory details?"
