I really did sympathize with plonq when he had to say goodbye to his Probe after we got the convertible. I knew that at some point down the road, I would have to do the same to Dexter.
I felt the same way when I sold my first car. It was a 1987 Chevrolet Sprint, and I ran the wheels off of it. It started having electrical problems, and I ended up selling it to my uncle for $200.
It's hard to part with a car that's been as reliable as this one. Before the recent spate of minor mechanical issues (brakes, clutch, bearings) it was actually a nice car to drive.
Yeah, I hated to part with my 89 Accord. It only had 416,000 miles on it, but the original engine was starting to miss on a cylinder.... And, at 300,000 miles, I had to put a new clutch in it....
I wound up donating it to a charitable organization, where, I understand, the interns are driving it still!
Granted, we don't have the salt corrosion issues here in the South, nor the -30C weather....
A Truely Reliable Car is a hard thing to give up on. My condolences.
Cranberry is my Neon, she's about 12.5 years old with 73,000 miles. And I know "that day" is coming sooner than I'd like. Hopefully I can keep her a few more years. She's been my companion on many a cool trip, and she feels like an extension of me.
It's like her driver's seat was molded specially to fit me.
Well, literally...
A rear-end collision years ago bent the seat frame into a more comfortable position.

I still miss that car.
