First of all, thanks to those who have participated in my poll. Black wins hands down. So I guess I will buy the black cellular phone then. I'll keep you all posted. My birthday is not until end of February though. Now, for this post, I have two topics that have no connection with one another ...

First Topic: Sometimes life takes you where you are ( Read more... )

That's a good article by Ilona Andrews. Thanks for pointing this out.

I also agree with that. I don't think I can write objective reviews. Sometimes I'm so subjective that I'm downright bitchy *grins*

A couple of days ago I was wondering what happened with the job offer, now I got the answer. :)

My reviews are always subjective, it's always my personal opinion about the book which is based on what I like or not. So Ilona Andrews is right, when she says there's always a trigger that will make you love a book or hate it.

I'm sorry you didn't get the job :( But at the same time it makes me happy to read how excited you're about going back to study. I went back to university last September, and I think it's the best decision I've made since a lot of years ago. Sometimes I get a little frustrated when I can't find time to do housework and homework/study when I arrive home late from work, but at the same time the results worth it. And going to classes makes me socialize a little, which is good, even if I don't really have much time to be around the campus.

Good luck with your new adventure! :)

Sounds like the job offer worked out for the best!

I like what you're saying about bias and I guess I wish more people--even just fans--realized that. Sometimes someone recommends a book to me and I can tell I won't like it because it hits on a particular bias of mine. It doesn't mean it's a bad book, or really, that I even think it's a bad book, it's just not for me.

Wow. Just went back to read the original entry as you know I was MIA back then. Man, I missed a lot. Sorry if I was a bad friend... anyway sounded like a wonderful opportunity but also your heart wasn't in it. I can't believe they passed you up because you were overqualified. That's nuts!! But yeah, I guess you are where you are supposed to be right now and that is a good thing. I'm excited for you to start your new adventure and share it with us :-)

Writing reviews is a tough job.  I want the review to tell me about the book/movie, but I don’t want any spoilers.  I want the critic to tell me if they liked it or not liked it, but I want to know why. That is my favorite line of hers and what I always try to do when I review a movie or a book. Of course sometimes I'm too pissed off (in the case of a bad book/movie) to be objective but sometimes I do go back once I've cooled down to rewrite any wrongs. Lol. But basically that line stood out from her article because it's all I ever want too. Of course people are going to be biased ( ... )
