He arrives all of ten minutes later, handling Halle by his side as if she was a ragdoll he was pulling around--one hand on her waist, one hand on the gun, trying relentlessly to hold off the spiders long enough to kick the door a few times.
Oh. There were the kicks he was expecting. Shutting off the game he set it aside, moving to open the door. One swift movement and Matt was staring at the two in awe, his lips parted slightly.
"I shit you not. Not while the demons are attacking, Matt." Mello lumbers past the man in question, having last seen him only a few weeks since. His step is still a little swayed, he grabs the back of his friend's shirt and tugs it in an attempt to pull him inside and get the door locked. First prioriety is finding a place for Halle; brushing everything on the bed ceremoniously to the floor in order to lie her down sees to that, resulting in simply flopping her figure atop the covers.
Surreal isn't even close to what's happening. Watching the scarred guy he knew from his childhood (who used to be kinda well...pretty) push all his stuff to the floor and put a hot, unconscious chick onto his bed lacking a pillowcase and sheet...
Well it was pretty damn weird.
Awkward even. Which Matt was, and felt at that very moment. He said nothing, merely watching everything play out before him as he stood off to the side.
A cigarette right now would've been pretty awesome.
He doesn't fuss with her diminished figure for long: unbuttons her jacket to stop the fast-approaching overheat he feels creeping up upon pressing the palm of his hand to her forehead. That's all the immediate attention she recieves, just to make sure his efforts won't be wasted and she won't cop out of life too soon. When he turns his head to Matt, well, he's amused, to say the least; overcome with amusement and thanks, edges of his lips drawing up into a smirk. "Not used to me bringing girls home? Lighten up, man. I need to find Near. Stay with her."
"Isn't it obvious?" Whilst moving his hands in Halle's general direction to illustrate his point. "Why else would I call Near? She's his agent. He can deal with her. I have enough problems already."
"Do you honestly think that's a good idea?" Matt deadpanned, "Leaving a dying woman for Near of all people to take care of? He can't even take care of himself let alone another human being."
Which was...well it was true. After being assigned the job of giving Near food and basically acting as an errand boy here and there, it had become even more apparent to Matt that Near was well...a failure at basic life skills.
"If anything he's probably dead right now."
Which wasn't exactly the nicest thing to think about right now.
"Near can't lift his own ass but he'll find a doctor, or something more than I can find right now. I don't trust myself going back out there. You've got no fucking idea, man--" He says this rubbing his temples feverishly, taking a few paces back to sit with his legs bent.
"I dunno where he'd be, I dunno if he's alive or what. She got hit by the toxic. We need to get that crap out or she's going to go more batshit than most of the patients here. I'm trying, okay, fuck it I'm tired." He leans over, also killing for a cigarette around about now. And maybe a few hundred walls to kick holes through.
Halle stirs, slowly, trying to left a hand to touch her face-- she feels hot, awkwardly so. Fever, she guesses. He's there, he's there and there's someone else. Okay, that's progress.
"I don't know what it does. I'm no doctor." He's feeding pride from effort, and that's apparent. "Matt, it's been a long time for you I know. We can talk later, just--"
He's broken off by a sound from the bed, and looks up with a shoddy complexion. "What, so soon...?" And then he stands as if he's about to move himself to the bed--and he was, but now he just stands. "You probably know almost as much as I do." But now he's hasty.
"Oh be a goddamn man. She's not going to die, and if she does throw her out. Shift it to those things outside. You got nothing to do with her." He looks over to Matt, who seems a little too grounded for Mello's tastes. Still, it was a nice change to... how he was acting that night.
"I needed somewhere to come before contacting Near. Ideally, where there was someone else; no monsters." An angry smile. "We were bound to walk into eachother come what may."

"Mm I'm not used to seeing you period." He admitted. "Why do you need to find Near? Don't you hate him?"

Which was a bit hypocritical considering Matt was hoping Near really, of all things, knew how to survive.
"What does the toxic do? Does it kill? Or does it just make people crazy?"

"Mello--" It's slurred, uneasy. Is she safe?

"I'm not playing babysitter either. If she ends up dying while you go off somewhere it'll be on my hands. I don't want that."
