great article. i've been so mad about the strip lately. and now it looks like michael's apartment is burning down, so the whole family will be back in the old house for christmas. :(
preach it! I'm with squiggle--ugh, they'll be back home in no time. I don't understand why a pharmacist and a writer/editor have to live in a crappy old apartment and whine about how poor they are all the time.
Liz has been set up to oppose her as the Good Woman in the conflict, which is why, upon learning Anthony was single again, she promptly quit her job and moved home. Forget having a life of her own; she can push her kids into whatever career she regrets not having, like Elly has done with Michael. And little Françoise still needs a mother, dammit.

it's sad, I feel like this whole strip is delving into some sort of weird "see? settling isn't SO bad, right? right?" kind of justification. ick.
But I do kinda love how we all can spot the plotlines from a freaking mile away.
