Dean Trippe has posted an awesome rendering of the Spoiler over on his livejournal. He also includes an earlier image of his version of Stephanie as Robin. My mind started wandering at the drawing table tonight and I felt myself eager to do a version of Stephanie as Robin myself:
I always thought this color scheme would be cool for Robin. I think it works. I initially left her legs completely brown but they seemed to be missing something, so I put the bands on her ankles to coordinate with the bands on her arms. I'm not convinced it works, but I think it looks better than the legs being all brown. When it comes to superhero costumes I understand the desire to design them with all kinds of clever patterns or colors, etc., but when I've thought about them, I like to take what I think would be a practical, realistic approach. One of the first things that occurred to me is that any female hero with long hair would never wear her hair down, with the possible exception of Wonder Woman. I also tried to keep as few colors as possible in the design. The only spot where I let myself get a little 'designy' was with her belt. I thought the colors could afford to look a bit busy there. It also occurred to me, in keeping with the more robin-esque nature of my design that Stephanie's Batarangs could utilize her color scheme, and her smoke bombs could be speckled blue like a robin egg.
It wasn't long after Stephanie entered the Bat-world that I pretty much stopped reading monthly comics. The last things I recall were finding out she was the Cluemaster's daughter and then when her and Tim Drake started to get involved. I might have stopped reading before her and Tim and only recall that from reading press about it. Either way I've always thought Stephanie was a cool character and that much, much more could have been done with her that was, and that it was dumb and tragic that she was killed off.
Actually, I think it would be really cool to write a Stephanie/Batman story - having a female partner would bring a lot of different things to Batman's table...
