I want to sign up for some new kind of social blogging service. I don't know why, but I want to. So I went to check out Xanga, Zorpia, Netlog, and a bunch of others. All have inaccessible CAPTCHAs. Then, for whatever reason, I went to check out DiaryLand. You know, the place I started my first English-language diary at back in 2002? Guess what? ( Read more... )

Diaryland and Xanga are very old networking sites that were popular years ago before better things came along like Blogger and (much later) wordpress.com, even LiveJournal. I found some Diaryland stuff by someone whose death I did some research on a couple of years ago, and I couldn't read the actual diary but could read her guestbook and the comments she left on others' guestbooks. None of the guestbook comments even had dates on (not sure if the owner could see the dates or not). Not surprising that they haven't caught up with accessible Captchas yet - they are probably frozen around 2004.
