Heathrow terminal 3 is an interesting place. Packed with tired and bored people waiting for their gates to open, the place is busy. Crying kids, frustrated travelers, and smokers needing a fix brings the level of background noise to a point where some kind of headphones become a necessity. This was the earthquake map about 2 minutes after the 5.4 hit the Chino Hills area of Los Angeles county. I work about 70 miles to the south (just below the point marked "Oceanside") and felt the roller when it hit.

So July has been a month of very long hours, a lot of travel, and huge projects to deliver. We just finished moving the corporate office about 1/2 mile from where it was previously and this involved my team dismantling more than 150 servers in our engineering lab and then setting them all back up again in the new lab location in less than 4 days ( Read more... )

Journey to the Center of the Earth was fun in 3D. The kids had a great time.

I am at LHR in terminal 1 waiting for my back to LAX. The rest of the team stays through th 16th but I have too many meetings and such to deal with at the office. Things are moving along with the London project, though we still two logistical problems -- a $200k piece of equipment is still in route from Luxomburg to London. Logistics company can't pin down exactly where it is. And one piece of our second shipment is still MIA. Day three in London and only have slept a total of twelve hours. Two of our equipment shipments cleared customs and were delivered Tuesday night, a third should be delivered today, but the fourth is MIA.
